From all the sex? :O
I had something similar happen- the real estate had people come over to view the property about 3 days before my partner and I moved, and one of the viewers knocked over my open makeup kit, and some of the makeup stained the carpet. We ended up having to pay to have the carpet professionally cleaned to remove the stain, as the viewer denied knocking it over and the agent claimed not to have seen it happen- despite being about 5 steps away.
Sounds like fairly legal
As already said, if you'd informed your landlord this wouldn't have happened.
Even if you had caused the damage, you are not required to fix it. That is what a security deposit is for. Now, since the damage was caused by their guy, they have no legal standing. If its high enough, get a lawyer, if its not, just report them to the Better Business Bureau. Just don't pay
You don't seem to understand one thing. OP needs proof that it was the maintainance guy who caused the damage in order to alieviate liability. Otherwise they have no choice but to take care of it themselves.
