Today, I received a text from my dad, which was borderline-incomprehensible due to an insane amount of text language. I replied, jokingly asked if he had a stroke while writing it. A few seconds after hitting send, I remembered the stroke he suffered last month. FML

watch your back OP, someone might strike you while your not lookin..... and that someone could be your dad

Maybe when you're changing his diapers you won't forget such things?

There are different degrees of stroke, depending on how quickly you react, or which part if the brain it effects. No two strokes are the same. It wasn't until my father's third stroke that he was paralyzed.

My father's had 3 strokes over the past 2 years. I've been in this exact same situation, and I was pretty mortified. If OP's experience is anything like mine, it's not that he/she forgot, it's that those jokes have become such a normal thing, it slips out rather easily.

Pretty insensitive of you OP... I hope your grandparents talk shit about you in Italian next time you visit...

How can you forget that he had a stroke? My dad had a stroke nearly two years ago and it is STILL fresh in my memory and I worry about it nearly every day.

I'm not sure why he's texting, following a stroke if it happened just last month. Shouldn't he be going through rehabilitation and physiotherapy?

There are obviously levels of severity, and presumably this one wasn't too bad and the dad is functioning, hence OP briefly forgetting it had happened. My dad had a stroke; recovered quickly.

Oh okay. Thanks for the info, I'm ignorant towards this type of thing.

It was on the left side of his brain, and the hair on the left side of his chest went gray. Split right down the middle. So weird.

Are you sure you didn't get stroke either? Pretty hard to forget that

So I guess it wasn't dramatic enough, like acting drunk at a nonalcoholic party, to be memorable?

i think i was the only one to get the reference.

Thank you captain obvious... I've been watching your comments and i can't figure out if you're serious or if this is your idea of sarcasm....

You don't know that. He could have a sense if humor and laugh it off. My family always make jokes about my grandpa having only one leg, he makes jokes about it to.
