Today, I resigned from my job in favor of a higher-paying one. After I filled out and filed the necessary papers, my boss told me that I had been nominated to replace him when he retired in a month. His job pays at least twice what I'm now making. Thanks for telling me, asshat. FML

He could have been saying that just because you had already left.

So he decided to warn after you resignated? Seriously? That is a really enormous dick move. FYL, OP, hopefully the new job will improve your life.

Resignated? Is that what they're calling it these days?

English obviously isn't his first language. it irks me too, but jesus, cut him a little slack. there's no reason to be an enormous **** to him. try helping him if it interferes with your life that much. sorry people are so rude, Lipun.

I wouldn't believe it OP. If it was true, they would have let you know before you left for good. My bet is that your boss is just being petty.

As an owner of a company, I would have done the same thing. You obviously weren't truly happy working there or you wouldn't have been seeking other positions. It's not all about the money. Good things come to those with patience.

Sometimes, it does have to do with money. In my field there's jobs that pay minimum wage, and there's jobs that pay 70k a year. I wasn't staying in that minimum wage job when I just completed college, knew there was no growth in the company, and that there were people getting paid more than twice what I get with the same skill set. I loved my old job, but definitely not worth it.

If there ate people with the same skill set making twice what you do, there is obviously a place for advancement in the company. But if it's a job that starts at minimum wage and goes to twice that, why would you want to be doing it after college anyhow? Those jobs should be for the new worker, learning job skills. The purpose of college or learning a trade is to get away from them and on with your life.

I'll elaborate so no confusion :) I'm a pharmacy technician, and I work at both a large chain retail pharmacy, and in a hospital inpatient pharmacy. At the retail level, you make just above minimum wage, and unless you somehow plan to become a store owner of said large store, you're stuck doing the sans shitty job forever. In hospital, they have professional unions to give us the pay we deserve, and there is more opportunity. Some people never get out of the retail trap to see the light on the other end of the tunnel.

Nominated doesn't mean it was a sure thing. He's probably just saying that to bother you.

How much more money do you need? You were offered more at the new company, do you really need twice as much right away? Do you really want to stay at a place that was so crummy, you felt the need to leave? Also, are you sure you are cut out for manangement? Some people like being worker bees doing the work of the company, and wouldn't be happy just cracking the whip over other worker bees and handling their petty problems.

Why should he have told you? Presumably you had been working there for some time if you were being considered to become the new boss and yet you were willing to leave just for more money. Companies want people who are committed to more than just the size of their paycheck and you obviously aren't. YDI.

Thanks God for your comment! I was reading and reading and couldn't believe no one saw other prospective. I couldn't simply file reaignation at my job. I mean, I could, but I never would, before I would speak with my boss about reasons that make me want to leave and try to figure out a way to find a common ground. If someone is considered for a major position, than that someone probably is already on a position where one should discuss such decisions with superiors. At least thay is my opiniom.

I don't know what financial background you come from, but sometimes a little bit of money can be the difference between living paycheck to paycheck and having financial security. OP may not have particularly wanted to leave the company- it could have been a purely financially rationalized decision, and not necessarily motivated by greed 0.o

He's just screwing with you to make you feel bad. Some Bosses take quitting workers like a break-up and say anything to hurt you when you leave.
