Today, I resigned from my job in favor of a higher-paying one. After I filled out and filed the necessary papers, my boss told me that I had been nominated to replace him when he retired in a month. His job pays at least twice what I'm now making. Thanks for telling me, asshat. FML

He could have been saying that just because you had already left.

That's what happens when you get greedy.

If it's true, YDI for not being patient enough to wait another month to see what would happen if he retired. If false, you've lost nothing.

Yeah, because I'm sure her new employer was willing to wait a whole month for her to decide whether she wanted the new job or not.

Your own fault. Shit happens, and it sucks to be you.

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. There's no guarantee you would have gotten the other job.

I think that the one thing I hate about this site is the assumptions that people make about the OP's situations. I. This case he said that he filed the paperwork, but never mentioned when he had. For all we know he had filed them that day and his boss had not yet gotten word of him leaving the company. Or he may have known, and said that to rub it in his face. But the fact is we don't know, so I'm not going to ignorantly assume that his boss was being a jerk. It sucks for OP either way. We all have those moments where we look back at our past and wish that we had done things differently. But dwelling on the past get's you nowhere OP and hopefully you will have that opportunity for advancement you wanted at your new job.

Never know what could come next though.

That's what you get for jumping the ship. Especially if the company has been loyal to you. Can't say I feel that bad for you.
