Today, I seemingly misplaced my cell phone but didn't have time to look for it before work. This evening, my cell phone company calls me to tell me I have six hundred dollars worth of calls to El Salvador that I have to pay for. My cell phone was not misplaced, it was stolen. FML

This happened to me too. I called and reported it stolen immediately, but Verizon still billed me anyway. I had automatic billing so they billed my credit card. I called my credit card company and had them reverse the charge. Then I cancelled the credit card. Verizon sucks, they are still sending me annoying lawyer letters demanding that I pay them the $500 for calls to El Salvador. Hah. I will never pay.

#4, not really. In my case I called but by the time I called, the damage was already done and they waive/remove the costs incurred AFTER you make the call. When mine was stolen,I got into an argument with the bitch who stole it because I always call my phone to find it with the ringtone. Bitch picks up and says her boyfriend got the phone for her. :O. Cost to me: $22 in ringtones. OP, I do apologise but companies like Sprint which I had at the time ONLY takes off the charges incurred after you call and cancel. Filing a police report might help esp. if your phone is one of those GPS enabled ones.

Considering that they found the usage odd enough to call, I'm surprised they didn't ask if it was stolen instead of just charging you all that money....

#42 that's bullshit. My phone got stolen on Christmas and I didn't call to cancel the service until 2 days later. By that time, $300 worth of calls had been made to DR and they just removed it from the bill. I have Sprint too so it must just suck wherever you are. OP: Your cell company called YOU? Sure... Yet another lame ass FML.

that sucks! something similar happened to my mom right before mother's day. she thought she misplaced her phone and she waited TWO DAYS to tell me that she couldn't find it (she hardly ever uses it). so we had it suspended. when i got the bill, i realized the jerk that stole it used it to go on the internet (we don't have a data plan) and he bought EIGHTEEN ringtones. BUT when i called customer service, the guy took off all the charges, including any texts/calls made since the phone first turned up missing... no questions asked as to why it took us 2 days to report it. talk to them and see if they'll fix it for you!!

freakin' salvis. always messing up other people's lives!

This proves that Hispanics are thieves.

#47 is an idiot. and this is why you're supposed to cancel your phone when it gets stolen!!! and the thief wasn't even necessarily hispanic he/she could have just been calling a friend in el salvador. and the person might not have even stolen it but just found it but then decided to use it instead of finding the owner

you gave your phone company an alternative number so they could call you about your bill? well, that's new.

sounds fake, how can you manage to get $600 worth of phones calls in a few hours? its only like, 10 cents a minute -_-
