Today, I spent 3 hours making a birthday card for my boyfriend, delicately cutting each letter out of printed coloured paper. He used it as a coffee coaster. FML

Today, my boyfriend came over to celebrate our anniversary. He had a card written in crayon with my name spelled wrong, and a basket I had seen his mother throw in the trash filled with flower petals ripped from my mom's garden. Our anniversary was 3 days ago. FML

Today, it was my birthday and everyone in the office chipped in to buy me a card, and nothing but a card. It had a pre-written message on it and a space to write "Love, *insert name*" where everyone signed their names. The "Love" was crossed out and replaced with "From". FML

Today, I had an art class with my girlfriend. The teacher assigned "anti-cards", or cards for unusual or bad occasions. My girlfriend decided to make a "break-up" card, and I helped her write the poem inside it. After class, she gave it to me. FML

When someone does that kind of shit with stuff I make, I stop caring about getting them anything special. Next time just grab a card and sign it, since he doesn't seem to care. By the way, don't print out colored paper just to cut out. Go out and buy construction paper, it's cheaper.

YDI for taking 3 hours to cut out some pieces of paper to make a card. If you have nothing poignant to say, no amount of colored paper will make up for that. Use a pen next time.

YDI because there's no good way to give a card that took that long to make to a guy. Either you just give it to him, and he's really got no idea of the work that went into it, and thus it becomes a small, but nice gesture. After that, it's not work looking at to him, save for a small minority which obviously does not include your boyfriend. Otherwise, you tell him how you slaved over it, and he's got no choice but to express what is likely partially faked emotion over the card.

I don't get what people think you're supposed to do with a card after it has been given. It goes in the trash! Or it gets used as a coaster! It's not a tiny paper god that deserves to be enshrined forever. It was going to get thrown away anyway. Get over it. Though, of course, you should give him some crap about it. ;) But an FML? I don't think so. This gets a "so what?"
