Lots of elderly people have worn out palates, OP. If there's even a speck of garlic in any food I give my grandmother, she'll make a face like I tried to poison her, and won't eat. Elderly women are also notorious for being very rude. I'm sure you're a brilliant chef, don't let this get you down.
