Today, I spent 5 hours preparing dinner for my fianc''s grandparents, whom I've never met. At dinner, his grandmother says to him, "If you're going to pick someone to spend the rest of your life with, at least make sure she can cook." I'm the executive chef at a 4 star restaurant. FML

Same thing different taste

Further proof that some grandparents/parents will be negative - no matter what.

And? Maybe they just have bad taste in food, or you honestly messed up. If you know you're good, it's not a big deal, really.

Key word: GRANDparents.... stupid ***** are old. dont listen to them.

Well, if they're anything like MY grandparents, the food would have to be kind of BAD for them to like it. My grandma doesn't think anything is good unless it's fried. Honestly, your food was probably BETTER if she didn't like it.

@41 1) you just responded to yourself. 2) Clearly you haven't worked in a kitchen, especially a high end restaurant. Chefs can expect to work 70 hours a week or even more. If you work in a restaurant, your life is your job, outside of that you have nothing. I'm not saying it's impossible, I'm just saying it's improbable.

@44: Yeah, that's odd, at the time I posted, I was definitely *not #41*. Someone must've deleted a post at some point. Anywho, yes, I've never worked in a kitchen, though I am aware that they have crazy hours, like hospital staff do. That doesn't mean that they still don't have time for themselves.

@ 40: I agree its a little fishy. The most common rating goes on a 3 star system, but I have heard of 5 star ratings. But the other points also make a lot of sense

I have six years of restaurant experience and my girlfriends mom called my risotto crappy mushy rice to my face and turned her nose up to Bearnaise sauce I had made for the Filet Mignon. Some people have no taste in food my grandfather still eats his steak at the rough texture of shoe leather. Just brush it off there is no accounting for taste.

Don't worry about it. They're grandparents, so they'll probably die soon anyway.

It sucks but the truth is...nobody will ever be good enough for their baby. That's the way nearly all parents/grandparents are.

As you get older, your sense of taste starts to go, just like hearing does. I wouldn't invest to much thought into a comment like that who either can't taste very well or doesn't know good food.

you may be otherwise, but just because you have a title it doesn't mean you are that good. believe me, i have a few "great" cooks that can't even poach an egg properly. they burn everything they cook, but they are the top cooks. i mean they use fryer oil for rue for crying out loud. i've known a lot of cooks that throw their title around but they are just laughable.
