Today, I spent over $2,000 on a big flatscreen TV. My dad insisted I let him mount it on the wall instead of paying someone to do it. All seemed fine, until the TV came loose and smashed onto the floor. My dad refuses to accept responsibility, and says I should've had a professional install it instead. FML

Most expensive paperweight you ever bought, ey op?

Punch a few holes in his wall and blame him for not having professional grade cement walls.

Damn! Hopefully you got like some insurance or something, sorry to hear that!

Your dad seems immature and irresponsible. I really hope you can get him to at least give you half. Good luck OP!

as someone who mounts TV's for a living I have to say this is insane. It's fairly cheap to higher someone who knows what they are doing and if they **** if they pay for it. if you deside to do it yourself you should still be able to do it. it's super simple. drill a hole, insert an anchor, screw in the mount, hang the tv. honestly every mount comes with instructions

I mean, anchors would work on light tv's, but it would be much safer if the mount were drilled into to studs. Anchors are more of a last resort in my opinion.

Maybe time to threaten small claims court? Fault seems pretty clear.

I'm sorry, but that's a crazy amount to spend on a t.v.

Just my opinion but That's way too much to spend on a TV. I spent 300 for my flat screen (still a lot but more reasonable than 2000) and it probably works as well as the one you spent so much on, or even better given the fact yours is now broken. Unless you were going for size on the tv, which is obviously the case, but still the quality would still be the same as everyone else's right?

Nobody is paying for a TV just to 'work'. There are other things to take into consideration too. Besides, even if OP wanted to buy something like a big-screen 4k LED TV and had the disposable income or had saved up to buy it then I say more power to 'em.
