Honestly, if he/she's the type who would be bothered by dating someone overweight (and many perfectly nice people don't find overweight people attractive), it might help your chances for him/her to know that you're working on losing some weight. In fact, I don't think it's embarrassing at all to be trying to be healthier. I think you should be proud of yourself.
