Today, I thought I'd save some money by doing my own electrical work. When I turned the power back on, it caught fire. FML

OP here....I'm getting hammered on this one as I expected. Waiting on a electrician as we speak.

That's why it takes at least 4 years to become a qualified electrician (at least where I am). No amount of money you could save is worth your life. Hope you were able to put the fire out :)

You should be leaving that to the experts...

I can relate. My sisters now ex husband installed a hot tub. It worked great until it burned the house down

Its fine.... keep trying and learn from your mistakes. Its really not that hard.

my dad's an electrician and I work for him as an apprentice when I'm not in school and you should really never do your own electrical unless you undeniably know exactly what you're doing each step of the way

Sounds like that idea went up in flames.

OP, what exactly did you try to do? Replace a light switch or outlet receptacle? Just wondering....

electrical work is one if the few things that is not a DIY project. Unless you know what your doing with absolute certainty you could end up, say... setting your house on fire.
