Did you try actually talking to her about it? If she's just been slacking off then fair enough, but if she's genuinely struggling to understand then all this punishment is going to do is make her hate you for A) taking away something important (to her) from her and B) punishing her for something that may not be her fault and you didn't try and help her with.
Hi everyone, OP here. I couldn't fit much info into the post, but just to clear things up, yes I gave her plenty of warning. Her grades are a result of her cutting classes. Hopefully she stops this crap, or you'll probably be seeing another FML when it comes time for prom.
I applaud you. Keep it up!!
Awwww, kids won't remember if they were grounded for a week or weekend and they will still learn from that. But they will remember all their lives if they were grounded from big Life Events like Homecoming. And they will remember the anger of not being with their friends. It's a little much. I speak from experience.
Homecoming isnt a huge life changing event! Its just a high school dance. Besides, OPs kid should have known her parents rules on grades, and knew they would ground her for shitty grades. Its her fault for not trying harder. She can keep on singing "If I die Young in her room." I have been to homecomings and proms. They were ok, but not some "life changing event." Getting married, Giving birth to your baby is a life changing event, a death in the family is life changing....homecomings aren't
That's the worst punishment... You should've just threatened it... Why would you do that?!
Homecoming is a memorable thing! You should really rethink that punishment. That's just cruel.
What's the big deal about homecoming? At my school it's just where horny people go to grind and get laid.
Why would you not let her go for not having her grades up? That's stupid.
If her singing is terrible, take her out and bring her to a local gig, on a crowded bar. Once in front of everyone, tell her if she really wanna keep on her singing carreer. Should be enough

What about a tutor instead of both?
She may be giving you a hard time now, but I honestly believe that if you stick it out and teach her that her actions have consequences, she will appreciate it so much more when she is an adult and be better of for it.
