Today, I told my family that I wanted to change my last name to my future wife's. We want to have the same last name, and we chose hers because she is an only child, while I have three brothers. Half of my family is laughing and calling me "pussy whipped" while the other half won't speak to me. FML

I think that's fantastic! My husband and I considered that very thing 15 years ago because I loved my maiden name and his was very common. We didn't because of all the crap people gave us for it and I still regret not telling everyone to piss off. You are an awesome fiancé.

I can't believe all of the haters on this. Your family is being disrespectful and I can't believe they would want your fiance's family's name die just because of a tradition built on sexism. Don't get me wrong, I like said tradition, but we should all be respectful of our choices. So many of the people here are just ******* ignorant.

While it is a bit weird and would take time to get use to, your family should not act like that nor speak like that. Try to give them some time to adjust but demand common decency and respect.
