Today, I took my lunch break to buy my mom a pretty orchid. I took it to her apartment (to which I have a key), placed it on her coffee table with her card, and went back to work, pleased with my surprise. She called me later to ask why I got her a stick in a pot of dirt. Her cat ate the orchid. FML

(This is my FML, made an account after the submission...) plethora, orchids run about $20-30 and the cat had eaten ALL of it. Not just the flowers...stem too. So I don't think it's going to grow back. Orchids are delicate. :)

If memory serves me correctly, aren't Orchids poisonous if ingested? I may have it confused with about 1000 different other flowering plants that can kill you if ingested, but I am pretty sure the Orchid is on that list.

Looking at the other comments (I know nothing about flowers and whether Orchids are poisoness or not...) I hope the cat is ok. Unless the last sentence of that FML was indicating that the cat was unwell/had died because of eating the plant. But I'm guessing you would've said that seeing as it would've made it even more of an FML! Hope kittys ok though :) And I hope you explained to your mom what your gift actually was, she probably wouldve found the funny side to it :3 Also, least you learnt another lesson...never leave a potted Orchid where the cat can easily get to it! Next time, you're gonna know to leave it in a room with the door locked so kitty can't get in ^_^

Buy her another one, grab the cat, and look at it person to animale and say "these are not yours" or "your not going to eat this, unless you know what good for you". Put the cat some place far away from the flower or flowers. And then go get your mom and say "here's the stick I got you". Your mom will get it:) All the best, RI

#7: Er, right, of course. My bad. *sheepish* :D #8: I know. Some plants only flower once a year. Doesn't mean they're dead in the meantime, though.

Yeah, the "stick" was the stick holding the plant up. Orchids are not poisonous to cats (I did consider this before buying it), so the cat should be fine. The cat is usually outdoors, had no idea it was inside. >_< Oh well. She said she's going to take it to the store and ask if she can have another one. Worth a shot. ;)

Not FML worthy, but definitely unfortunate! At my office, someone sells these beautful wooden roses. I've bought my parents a few dozen of them. Their cats can't eat them and they look like they're completely real!

#17 your right! But you cant help but smile, when you picture a cat with splinters in its moth. By the way I do like cat. RI

the WHOLE thing? i find that kinda hard to believe. it may have just dragged it somewhere. my cat used to do that and i would spend hours looking for flashdrives and earphones and stuff. but then again, the same cat was obsessed with smelling flowers and plucking the petals so idk..
