Today, I took my two and a half year-old son Trick or Treating for the first time in our new neighborhood. At the very first house, a girl told us we were too early and slammed the door in our face. My son cried. FML

OP here! A lot of these comments are hilarious! Thanks for that and for those that showed us some support and sympathy. We started trick or treating at 5:15. Apparently trick or treating kicks up in our neighborhood around 6/6:30. Now I know. When I went trick or treating when I was younger, everyone started around 4 and people were prepared. Besides, how hard is it put some candy in a bowl? Also, some people commented about why a 2.5 year old needs candy, he doesn't, but we went for the experience. Luckily, we rebounded and had a fun Halloween after that incident.

Currently, I am away at college but I used to be the one to pass out candy at my house, as soon as I was too old to trick or treat. From the moment I got up, on the day of Halloween, I had the candy my mom bought ready and waiting, in a bowl, on a small table by our front door. The girl who was rude to, not only you, but your son as well SHOULD be ashamed of herself! Your son is 2 and a half years old. He, like most kids, NEEDS to be in bed at a certain time. What Time you trick or treat varies by family/individual. Whether it's school the next day or, like your son, just being young, kids NEED their sleep so that they are not cranky the next morning. I, personally, feel that people should have their candy ready the moment they get home from work or school or as early as the time when kids in their city/town start coming home from school.

*Just in case someone decides to come early. I understand that there are towns with trick or treating times and I do believe that those should be obeyed but it doesn't hurt to be prepared or to just not answer your door. I do not believe in making little kids cry.

It's called Trick or Treat. She didn't choose treat. Guess what she gets. That's right, some TP, eggs, and maybe some bologna thrown on her car.

I'm at work at 515 still...people start at 6 in my neighborhood. Enough time to get home from work and get a drink of water before handing out the candy.

In USA they have some weird trick or treat scheduling system on a per neighbourhood basis, over here it's just go out when it's dark and finish whenever you want.

In my neighborhood it starts at 7pm ends around 9pm but there are some neighborhoods who start around 6 when there is still daylight out

aww poor kid. we only got 2 kids trick or treat at our house this year, I was gutted!

Get a dog and make him poop all over her front yard and get more dog poop throw it on her house and then TP her house

Good thing he's 2.5 and has a very little chance of remembering someone that cruel!!! I just don't understand people nowadays.

There are specific times for trick or treating for a reason. Chances are you interrupted that poor woman's dinner. Don't teach your kid to skirt around the rules to get what he wants.

Even if the time was bad the girl could have definitely been politer about it.
