Today, I tried to scare what I thought was a stray cat away from my friend's car in our work parking garage by hitting the panic button on his keys, which did, indeed, make the creature panic. That's when I learned it was not a cat. It was a skunk. FML

In the area I live and work it's very possible that a stray cat will be less than healthy. And as I own two cats I also don't want to carry fleas or ticks home to them. Also, and mostly this I think, I don't want to be attacked by a rabid animal- Adorable kitten or otherwise.

I had a kitten die that way. He climbed onto my engine and I didn't realize it until I took my car to get serviced later that day. He was a pretty black kitten too.

In my area it is very common to find the Black Plague on fleas that stray animals carry around. I try to keep any stray cats away from the property so my cats nor I catch anything

Don't feel bad op. When I first moved from the city to the country, I attempted to pet a skunk that I thought was a cat. Admittedly it was really dark outside, but I'd never even seen a skunk before.

That reminds me of the commercial (for vision, I think) with the raccoon, where the lady thinks it's her cat. "Come snuggle with mama!" Haha.
