Today, I was at a swim meet. I asked my friend if he could be my wingman and help me get a date with a girl I really liked. I told him my plan, and as I finished and turned to go to her, I noticed her standing right there, listening in on the whole conversation. FML

Abort! Abort! Eject wingman! Repeat, eject wingman! Plan B, grow some balls and ask the girl out yourself. The advantage of a swim meet is that everyone can tell if you accomplished step one ;)

Not everyone has confidence. I, personally, can't talk to anyone unless I have a legitimate reason to start a conversation These skills just don't come naturally some people as they do to others which is why we make strategies

I still don't think that a wingman will be all that helpful when your target is someone you already know. If it's just a random hookup, then sure, wingmen can be great. But when you're trying to confess to "the girl you like", then I believe you should do that by yourself.

Oh, I don't know. 'Wingman' could be a very loose term here. For all we know, his part in everything was to just get the two of them alone

Then work on gaining confidence and social skills, not plans. When you're an adult, 'I don't have the skills or confidence' is not an excuse, and it's not attractive.

@38 Actually, creating plans and strategies can be very important in life and is considered a skill that is useful in many careers. Confidence can only get you so far in life and it doesn't come naturally to some people.
