Today, I was at my little girl's concert. She plays the clarinet, and in the middle of her solo, her phone started ringing. She decided to stop, check her phone, and continue playing. FML

How old is she and what happened afterwards?

I hope she's not really little.. She shouldn't have a phone if that's the case.

is she adopted, are her real parents honey badgers? because that little girl clearly doesn't give a shit!

Did she really check her phone or did it just look like it? If that happened to me I'd get out the phone and probably fumble about a bit whilst trying to turn it off. Could've just looked like she was checking it when really she was just trying to shut it up.

This is probably closer to the truth. I have a hard time fathoming that a kid would stop a recital to text on their phone.

Good point. If I want to turn off my smartphone, I have to swipe to turn it on, press a hardware button and then select an option. I think they made it difficult to turn the damn thing off on purpose.

How little is she if she has a cell phone?

As a band geek myself, I am utterly repulsed by this :P if she was anything older than maybe 6th grade, I would be one pissed off band kid.

you shouldn't be blaming anyone but the parents. If this girl isn't responsible enough to yet know when it's appropriate to have her phone on and off then she shouldn't have one. Yeah, this generation is technologically dependent but kids are getting phones at such a young age now and it seriously becomes their life support. I'm seventeen and I had a Trac Phone (for EMERGENCIES) until I was old enough to get a job and pay for my iPhone & the monthly payments myself.

I agree that you shouldn't have a phone till you know how and when to use it. 17 years old is a bit extreme to not have a proper phone though...but hey, maybe your parents didn't think you were responsible. *shrugs*

55 I think you misunderstood 46. He said that he's 17 and HAD a trac phone UNTIL he was old enough to get a job and was able to pay for his own cell phone and the monthly payments. It sounds like his parents did the right thing by teaching him responsibility.

Actually you're right, my bad. But if that's the case I'm not sure why 46 felt the need to mention their age at all. The sentence would've made perfect sense without it...

His age is relevant because if he were say, 30, then cell phones wouldn't have been so ptevelant when he was younger, making it a moot point

It's your fault for giving her a phone. Little girls aren't responsible. My parents didn't give mine until I was 11.

You think 11 is "responsible" and "mature"?

WOW! Eleven years old... I was 25 when I got my first cell phone and I had to pay for it myself.

Yeah um, I had to get a job before i was able to get a phone and i have to pay my own bill.

You are only 14 now. You ARE a little girl.

Why did she even have her phone on her? When I was in band we weren't allowed to have them on stage with us.

I really hope you took her cell phone away from her for A WHILE so she'll learn her lesson & when it is an appropriate time to use her cell phone & when it isn't. A cell phone for a kid is a privilege not a right!
