Hey guys! I literally just got an account and can now give more details if you would like them. I had to post as anonymous at the time, so... yeah. I was actually on my way out of the store because my puppy and I had just finished the obedience class that we were going through; that was when the man approached. Mister (my dog), for the most part, does very well with socializing. The only difference between this time and the others was that the man approached with a very demanding tone and shoved his hand in my dogs face; all the while ignoring my telling him to back off. Mister is only a 10 lb dog, so I can only imagine how he felt with the big man looming over him (I had him on a leash by my feet); it was natural for him to get defensive. The good thing is that the "charges" were dropped the next day. All in all a happy ending for Mister and I!
You warned him, it's his own damn fault.
why are you taking an unsocialized animal into public before getting it used to other people?
Mister isn't un- socialized. It is like asking why would you take a 4 year old to the grocery store. The kid is prone to temper tantrums as well; especially when a mean looking stranger approaches.
Just because a dog doesn't like being petted by strangers doesn't mean he's unsociable. It was the man's fault for petting a stranger's dog without permission, not the OP's.
Also, the best way to socialize animals is to expose it to other people. Start slow, but how else are you going to socialize it...
I believe you have a pussy on your hands.
The same thing could happen to me too, my dog is 9 months old and weighs 65lbs I only weigh 125, I can't stand when parents let their little kids or smaller dogs run up to her because she likes to play rough and jump. If she hurts one of the littler dogs or a little kid, I'm the one who gets in trouble and it's the parents/owners faults for letting their kid/dog run up in the first place.
Yeah.. that always seems to be the problem. I wish that people would exude a little common sense every now and then.
Sound like he was hoping for go away money. He can sue, but he doesn't have a case.
Next time you should actual learn him instead of just trying.
Good for you!!!! Rescuing is the way to go!!!

This is why I don't like taking my dog out often. People need to learn to ask before touching a stranger's pet.
Well, he can't sue if there is no damage and you did try to warn him. People should never pat strange dogs without owner's permission, it was his own stupidity
