Today, I was at Petsmart with my puppy. Someone tried to pet him. I tried to warn the guy that he is a rescue and doesn't trust easily. He didn't listen and now wants to sue me for a dog bite that didn't even break the skin. FML

This is why I don't like taking my dog out often. People need to learn to ask before touching a stranger's pet.

Well, he can't sue if there is no damage and you did try to warn him. People should never pat strange dogs without owner's permission, it was his own stupidity

Thank you for adopting! Nothing feels worse than being unwanted. My rescue tags along wherever I go and she's trained to sit between my legs when we stop moving so that people can't pet her without my knowledge. Her intense fear of strangers is the reason why she was almost killed at animal control. If you haven't already tried instructing people on how to approach your dog, give them the play by play. For example, "Crouch down sideways and offer a low hand without making eye contact. Leaning over him or touching the top of his head will scare him." There exist collars/harnesses/leashes that communicate your dogs needs from a distance like "CAUTION" or "BLIND DOG". Google it!

Maybe dont bring your dog to petsmart. What if that were a child face?

Let him sue - no damage means no $. He's an idiot

Welcome to America where one tiny bite and that guy could end up taking your house with a good lawyer

Counter sue by saying he hit your dog. Your word is enough testimony and everyone loves puppies. No court will help a guy guilty of cruelty to animals.

The case will get thrown out. Don't worry about it. If you can prove you told him not to pet the dog, he won't even have a case.

He can WANT to sue all he wants. Nothing's going to happen.

hey op. I actually work for a petsmart and idk of you did this but a manager could have written up an incident report since it was on their property. hopes this helps for future issues and people need to know two things about petting pets 1) always ask the owners permission and 2) ask if there is any issues (I.e. petting top of head, knealing, leaning over top of the pet) hope everything works out for you!

Thanks! Everything did work out; Mister is happy at home and taking a nap. :)

You would've been screwed had it broken skin but since if didn't you should be fine. It could be a lot worse. Sorry

That's your own fault for bringing a dog like that around. Have fun in court I hope he wins.
