As part of treatment, abusive people are taught to go around and ask for forgiveness. I find it a horrible habit that cares more about making the abuser feel better about themselves rather than help the victim. A lot of victims want to leave it behind, and not be confronted with their abuser. This practice should be outlawed!
my old therapist told me to do the opposite.. he said exactly that- that it’s for the benefit of the person that’s apologizing and will only open old wounds for the person being apologized to, that it’s better to move forward and focus on the present.
