Today, I was at the doctor's getting a check up. He asked me if I was allergic to anything, to which I blurted out, "Cats." He gave me a weird look and said, "Don't worry, I won't give you cats." FML

Your doctor never gives cats? I would switch doctors. I have a whole litter after my last check up! :D

Lol his fault for not being specific. I would've said the same thing if I were allergic, too.

some vaccines are animal based so being a doctor he shouldn't be so sarcastic. All allergies are important to know.

haha maybe he secretly wants to give you cars

If that is so, I want to know this doctor! If he wants to give me cars that'd be alright!

That would be Oprah, and she doesn't have her medical degree yet.

That is just a weird response from a doctor... It's an allergy... Unless you were at an OB/GYN, but still...

They usually ask any medications or medical supplies. If he didnt specify, you were in the right. I always say blueberries, because they never specify :) FYL for having a dumbass doctor.

I always ask, "Are you allergic to any medications?" My favourite answer is "Penicillin", because then I get to ask what their allergic reaction is. Nine times out of then they say something like, "Oh I've never taken it, but I was told as a kid that I was allergic." I ******* hate that.

Or they'll say they know they're allergic because it gave them a stomach ache. If it's a known side effect of the medication, it's not an allergic reaction *facepalm*

Well, with all due respect Doc, they may have been given it as a kid and not remembered. My daughter has a penicillin allergy (amoxocillin) and has to wear a medic alert bracelet. She certainly doesn't remember taking medication at 3yrs which caused her to swell up like the dough boy. She probably would have answered the same way (although, usually, she repeats what's on the bracelet).

That may be true, Red. But I can't tell you how many people have actually told me that they've never taken it, but their mother is allergic or something like that. Trust me, I hear it regularly.

Quick question, Doc - can a person be allergic to absolutely anything? I find it hard to wrap my head around some people's claims.

I always say I'm allergic to clay if someone asks if I have any allergies. I wrote it down when I registered at a new doctors and told my surgeon before an operation cause he asked. You gave a sensible answer OP, he should've been more specific if he didn't want to know that! At least you're allergic to something common, being allergic to clay always causes the doctor or nurse to laugh and tell me "that's a new one!".

Allergic to clay as in the store-bought stuff or rock clay you find outside? Curious because its so weird to me lol.

Allergic to the natural stuff, that is found in the ground. It's very odd!

I'm allergic to cats too, so I probably would have said the same thing.
