Today, I was at work when I found an iPhone on the floor. I decided not to turn it into the manager and keep it. Five minutes later, a customer asked if anyone had turned in her missing phone. I said no and began to walk away, when her friend called her phone. It rang. She recognized the ringtone. FML

You didn't not deserve this in the slightest bit. If she reports you to your manager you're probably screwed, because it'll make them think you can't be trusted with anything, which would include if someone accidentally forgot their credit card.

I'm pretty sure if you find something that belongs to someone else and that someone else comes up to you asking if you've found that something and you've decided you're not going to give it back to them, you're stealing. Fortunately for the idiot it was just a phone and not something that would land him in jail.

Growing up I learned that one can't expect the world to be be honest and you have to maintain accountability for one's belongings. I'm not saying what OP did is okay, but if you left you're car unlocked with the engine running. I have no sympathy for you if it was stolen. Forgive me for not growing where we leave our houses and cars unlocked. The rest of the world doesn't live by the same rules I live by, and I would be foolish to think differently.
