Today, I was bitched out by my supervisor because of my lack of "customer service" skills. I work at a jail and all my "customers" are criminals. FML

Hey everyone I am the OP, I am a CO at a very "nice" jail as I like to think, we treat our inmates with respect as long as they show respect back ( I didn't mean to start a political debate here haha). Basically, I thought it was stupid to be bitched out about my "customer service" because that is a very strange thing to say about a jail, where SAFETY and SECURITY should be priority. And frankly, I don't believe my *accused* criminals should be served in any other way besides providing safety and security.

Your lack of customer service is going to get you shanked by a plastic knife one day

I propose a change to the Golden Rule: "The customer is always right. Unless he's in prison for raping farm animals." Sounds good to me.

So of all things, farm animals is where you draw the line? So children or adults or even regular animals are okay but not the farm animals! Lol

Raping farm animals is illegal? Shit...

Well, we all know what to do with this problem. Set these nice people free! I'm sure they will compliment you for your good service for the rest of their lives, than your manager will have nothing to say about you, right?

Some people are just terminally stupid, you supervisor is one of these people.

Cute comments. Just because they're in jail doesn't mean you should treat them like animals. And if you do, you shouldn't be surprised if they go right back to whatever horrible thingst they did that landed them there the first time; after all you've been raising them to.

raising? you're not raising the inmates. unless you work in juvi… maybe you mean grooming?

You are raising them. There's no point in ever letting them out if you're not going to raise them. They'd just go back to whatever they were doing before.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Criminals are still people and deserve to be treated as such. That doesn't mean you have to fluff their pillows and read them bedtime stories, but just changing the way you speak to them might be a good idea (seeing as that's your job and all). And as for raising (or conditioning) them for the outside world... it reminds me of one of my favorite movie quotes, "...what else is to be concluded, Sire, than that you first make thieves and then punish them?" Sure, they're already thieves (or murderers, or... whatever), but lets not give them a reason to continue on that path, shall we?

If someone's in jail for murdering or raping someone, in my honest opinion they shouldn't be treated with any respect or cordiality. (I'm a big fan of the electrical chair.)

At what point did people stop learning on their own? Generally as a little kid you learn not to touch the hot pan after you realize that it is hot. Prison is supposed to be bad, not a place you want to go a second round. Some people are capable of learning and decide to clean up their act after they get out. As for the others, they are either stupid or the punishment isnt bad enough.

You must be brave enough to treat ur customers badly. They are criminals dude be careful.

Did u make one of the prisoners drop the soap?
