Today, my girlfriend was upset, so I tried to cheer her up by telling her how much I love her and how beautiful she is. After a minute, her face started to light up. I thought it had worked until I realized that she was being cheered up by the friends she was talking to online. FML

Today, I have been dating an incredibly gorgeous woman. She had a poor self image and after the longest time, I finally convinced her to seek counselling to help her self esteem. It worked. So well in fact that she just broke up with me because she "finally realized she could do so much better" FML

YDI for being a Nice Guy. But, of course, that IS jumping to conclusions. However, I think I can safely say based on the fact that you were "in love" with her for years, you have little/no spine, and are indeed a "nice guy". On the other hand, FML for being called ugly/unattractive. Nobody deserves that, spine or no spine.

She is clearly an idiot. She fears that no one will date her because she is ugly but she throws in the adjective 'hot' to define her type of guy. She is forcing the idea upon herself. In that situation, I would most likely say "You're right, you are ugly. Both inside and out"
