Today, I was cleaning my apartment because I'm moving. I was being really thorough so I could get as much of the damage deposit back as possible. I noticed I still had one of those 3M plastic hooks on the wall, and when I went to carefully take it off, a large chunk of the wall came with it. FML

That happened to me! I hadn't paid a deposit, but I would have had to pay if the apartment was damaged. I glued back in as much of the chunk as I could, and I never heard anything about it....and even received paperwork saying I didn't owe anything. So they either didn't notice or didn't care! lol

spackle and paint and about 25 minutes later, nobody knows the difference. shit sucks though

the same thing happened to me in my dorm, luckily it was a white wall so i just filled it with spackle and no one noticed.

haha... oops :D i did that with a screw to hang a picture, i went to nail it into the wall and the wall collapsed in on itself :D

seriously, its not that hard to fix, and itll be a whole lot cheaper than what they'll claim it costs if they do it

Tell people that you wanted to break something and you caused the destruction with one hand.

Don't **** with 3M adhesive. Once applied, that shit'll be there forever. Learned my lesson on that one before.

your life is not F***Ked just becasue you tore off some plaster, stop bitching and just fix it!

So you know how when you put the hooks up, it had instructions for how to take it down? Yeah, those actually matter. You can't just pull it off, you grab the tab (of the sticky stuff, not the plastic) and SLOWLY pull it straight down, and eventually, it comes off without even removing paint. Never just yank at it. YDI for not reading the instructions.

#9 - then your grandparents are VERY nice. More often than not people DONT get their full deposit back. Not to mention MOST places charge a cleaning fee that comes out of your deposit (usually written in the lease...very standard). And im with #2. Just go fix it. Its not that hard.
