Today, I was cleaning my apartment because I'm moving. I was being really thorough so I could get as much of the damage deposit back as possible. I noticed I still had one of those 3M plastic hooks on the wall, and when I went to carefully take it off, a large chunk of the wall came with it. FML

That happened to me! I hadn't paid a deposit, but I would have had to pay if the apartment was damaged. I glued back in as much of the chunk as I could, and I never heard anything about it....and even received paperwork saying I didn't owe anything. So they either didn't notice or didn't care! lol

ANOTHER IDEA I JUST HAD!! YOU COULD BUY A MIRROR AND PUT IT OVER THE HOLE TO COVER IT UP AND THEY WOULD PROBABLY JUST THINK THE MIRROR WAS PART OF THE APARTMENT AND NOT NOTICE!

you deserve it you definitely took the hook off incorrectly. ive used those for years in lots of different apartments and as long as you pull the tab down and remove it correctly instead of just ripping it off the wall theres no reason it would do that.

yea all u have to do is put some spackle on it and sandpaper it over.... not rly all that difficult.... this is a crappy fml anyways.... wasted my time

#18, #21, #33...when it happened to me, I WAS pulling the tab like the instructions said to. It still pulled off a chunk of the wall.

That happened to all the people that used those 3M strips in the new apartments at my school, even if used correctly they ripped paint off the wall or some of the wall out. We have to pay damage either way... $25 for each hole. Also, if we try to fix it ourselves we get charged more =

I totally know how you feel - I had to put an $800 deposit down (we had no previous rental history and no co-signer) and my boyfriend's asshole brother took a huge chunk of the wall out when he was drunk. We're giving ourselves a week before our lease is up to clean, I want that $800 back! I also read somewhere that its unlawful to charge a renter if they have to replace the carpet or paint the walls, as they would most likely have to do it anyway because of normal wear and tear.

this isnt really an FML...all you have to do is just fix it a.s.a.p an FML would be if you're apartment collapsed.

agree with #40 - this really isn't an fml. it's easily fixable if you take time out from whining about how much you think your life sucks and just fix it.
