That actually happened to me two days ago when I was cleaning up my college dorm room. I just taped the piece back on and put white-out over it.. you could give that a try?
Get some plaster and fix it. It'll cost $10 at most, and unless you're terribly incompetent, they won't even notice.
Most landlords prefer that you use nails or thumbtacks to put things on the wall. Small holes are easy to patch. Adhesives do far more damage.

the same thing happened to me my freshman year in the dorm. i ripped 2 large chunks of the wall off. so i picked off the chunks and glued them back to the wall :)

That happened to me! I hadn't paid a deposit, but I would have had to pay if the apartment was damaged. I glued back in as much of the chunk as I could, and I never heard anything about it....and even received paperwork saying I didn't owe anything. So they either didn't notice or didn't care! lol
Sounds like something that would happen to me... that blows... Sorry!
