katzperiod tells us more.
Ok, my turn on my own post. My slip up came because it is very hard for me to organize my thoughts when I don't write them down and also because of frequent personal use. This is all besides the point of the debate though. I oppose the marijuana laws for both my own selfish reasons and from an economic-minded libertarian approach. It is written in the Declaration of Independence that all men are entitled to their own pursuit of happiness. From a public health point, marijuana does not physically harm anyone. Hard drugs should remain illegal because they will lead you to decay and death. Marijuana does not cause lung cancer or any other type of cancer. Zero people in the history of mankind have died directly from weed use. It is impossible to overdose and the worst that can happen is lethargy and fatigue. It can and has been used to treat over 120 diseases or symptoms of other medication. This country spends 12 billion dollars fighting pot with no results. If marijuana were legalized and taxed, then it would produce 6-7 billion dollars in revenue. That means almost 20 billion dollars would be gained every year that marijuana is legalized and taxed, money that can be spent on education, health care, environmental reform, defense, anything. Currently there is a huge overpopulation problem in prisons. 40% of all arrests are because of drug laws. Again as an American, I want to support legitimate American businesses and my government with my weed money. The people bringing weed into this country are international gangs that also deal in cocaine, heroin, prostitution, slavery, and arms deals. I do not enjoy supporting those causes for what I consider should be my personal freedom. To legalize pot would also create millions of jobs. Limited hemp research has proven that it would reduce dependence on foreign oil through hemp products and biodiesel made from hemp. Hemp is biodegradable and plastic can be synthesized from hemp fibers. Hemp seeds contain more protein than soy beans and could lower malnutrition if only it was legal to include it in aid packets sent to Third World countries. There is no slippery slope after you legalize pot. To say that fully automatic weapons could be legalized once pot is is absolutely absurd. Jake, the only reason weed is grouped with illegal drugs is because the government decided to place that label on it. Other drugs do physical and emotional harm through addiction. In response to #54, a good reason all those chemicals are present in weed smoke is because there has been no scientific approach to removing them, and most weed is smoked without a filter. Tobacco has been cultivated in America for 400 years and science has been around for 150 of those, the tobacco companies have billions of dollars to spend funding both research on how to make it safer and to fund anti-pot studies. I say enough propaganda. Listen patiently to what others say and accept it only if they can prove it with facts. All that I have stated above can be proven with facts. Jake, could it be that pot makes your family lazy because they don't want to be arrested outside? For someone who posts that you don't want people to cram opinions down other people's throats, you certainly like to cram your own down ours. In the last one I just read you were using mostly all caps.

If anything weed prevents crime. It relaxes people unlike conservative morals which just stress you out and force you to be or act like something you're not. Also what's the difference really between alcohol and weed? Pretty much does the same thing "***** you up" except weed can be grown more easily. thats the only reason it's illegal because the government doesn't want to and can't properly regulate drug trafficking within its own country.
Someone made the "obey the law, because it's the law" argument. Once upon a time it was against the law in America for a black person to sit at the front of the bus. Remember that. Not all laws make sense, and laws get changed because people resist them and get them changed. If you live in a democracy, don't ever forget that it's you who gets to decide what the law is.
Time to post again. First off, #59, you are greatly misunderstood if that's what you think. One of my closest friends died from being poisoned by all the chemicals in marijuana. He smoked nonstop, which is why they had ill effect on him. The reason they say it's not dangerous for you is because most people who smoke it don't smoke it in excess, and only inhale a small amount of the chemicals. Personally, people should have a right to do what they want, as long as it isn't causing serious harm to others or themselves(I don't mean like a small chance of getting cancer or poisoning from any kind of smoking, but of more serious drugs which can kill you after a single use, such as heroin). I don't mind if it's legalized, and if it's not I won't complain. I choose not to smoke, but that's just me. I'm not going to judge you anyone for smoking weed because like I said, we have rights. I just think it's not the best idea to smoke, but again, just me.
#65 lol Marijuana should be legalized. I've been there, done that, and have had a good time doing it. The past five-six years of my life was smoking practically all the time, and I have come out perfectly okay. I go to one of the top business schools in the United States, and graduated HS top 12%. I have never heard of anyone o.ding on weed, and that is just a ridiculous statement all together. (Anyone here the 911 call from the cop who made brownies?) As for hard drugs, that is a completely different story. Marijuana should stay as simple as it is, not laced with some messed up hallucinogen (bad experience). I had a friend who was distributing large quantities of hard drugs, and ended up dead in a hotel room. People will kill for certain types of drugs, and those should remain illegal. Jake- have you ever smoked a joint in your life? Don't knock it till you try it kiddo.
#65, dude you are either lying or have your facts completely mixed up. "All the chemicals in marijuana"? Seriously? Maybe, if you are unlucky, you have trace amounts of pesticides OR a growth mixture. That's it.
Well played by the teacher. I have nothing against pot but it is proven to cause retrograde communication in neural pathways which will kill neurons and you're brains ability to use those pathways. That said, I know several extremely intelligent potheads but if you're already lacking brainpower you might want to lay off.
Just read #64-- well said musu.
#65 : Please elaborate on "all the time". If you masturbated "all the time" I reckon that would kill you too. People have to stop to eat, and do basic things. Also, eating donuts "all the time" would likely kill you too, although one would imagine you'd get full occasionally and become incapable of eating more, which might of course change over time.
http://www.nida.nih.gov/infofacts/marijuana.html Read people, something that most of you are obviously deficient in. Weed isn't the harmless little plant you think it is. It is actually much more detrimental to your health than tobacco. Just because it grows naturally that doesn't mean it's ok for use. All plants are toxic, the only thing is that different animals have grown immunities to the various species of plant. For example, deer can ingest certain plants that would make a human sick to their stomach and vice versa.
you get your info from the gov, you fail.
