Today, I was debating weed legalization in drug awareness. I was thoroughly unleashing arguments: how marijuana turns normal citizens into criminals, how the government spends billions to enforce drug laws, when I lost my train of thought. My teacher grinned saying, "My point exactly." FML

katzperiod tells us more.

Ok, my turn on my own post. My slip up came because it is very hard for me to organize my thoughts when I don't write them down and also because of frequent personal use. This is all besides the point of the debate though. I oppose the marijuana laws for both my own selfish reasons and from an economic-minded libertarian approach. It is written in the Declaration of Independence that all men are entitled to their own pursuit of happiness. From a public health point, marijuana does not physically harm anyone. Hard drugs should remain illegal because they will lead you to decay and death. Marijuana does not cause lung cancer or any other type of cancer. Zero people in the history of mankind have died directly from weed use. It is impossible to overdose and the worst that can happen is lethargy and fatigue. It can and has been used to treat over 120 diseases or symptoms of other medication. This country spends 12 billion dollars fighting pot with no results. If marijuana were legalized and taxed, then it would produce 6-7 billion dollars in revenue. That means almost 20 billion dollars would be gained every year that marijuana is legalized and taxed, money that can be spent on education, health care, environmental reform, defense, anything. Currently there is a huge overpopulation problem in prisons. 40% of all arrests are because of drug laws. Again as an American, I want to support legitimate American businesses and my government with my weed money. The people bringing weed into this country are international gangs that also deal in cocaine, heroin, prostitution, slavery, and arms deals. I do not enjoy supporting those causes for what I consider should be my personal freedom. To legalize pot would also create millions of jobs. Limited hemp research has proven that it would reduce dependence on foreign oil through hemp products and biodiesel made from hemp. Hemp is biodegradable and plastic can be synthesized from hemp fibers. Hemp seeds contain more protein than soy beans and could lower malnutrition if only it was legal to include it in aid packets sent to Third World countries. There is no slippery slope after you legalize pot. To say that fully automatic weapons could be legalized once pot is is absolutely absurd. Jake, the only reason weed is grouped with illegal drugs is because the government decided to place that label on it. Other drugs do physical and emotional harm through addiction. In response to #54, a good reason all those chemicals are present in weed smoke is because there has been no scientific approach to removing them, and most weed is smoked without a filter. Tobacco has been cultivated in America for 400 years and science has been around for 150 of those, the tobacco companies have billions of dollars to spend funding both research on how to make it safer and to fund anti-pot studies. I say enough propaganda. Listen patiently to what others say and accept it only if they can prove it with facts. All that I have stated above can be proven with facts. Jake, could it be that pot makes your family lazy because they don't want to be arrested outside? For someone who posts that you don't want people to cram opinions down other people's throats, you certainly like to cram your own down ours. In the last one I just read you were using mostly all caps.

I've smoked weed for years and haven't performed a criminal act in my life. Besides the fact that you deserved that one, you're also an idiot with flawed arguments which probably aren't even yours.

he means the fact that it is illegal causes innocent people to be labeled as criminals

Wow, you guys are seriously into this. I find it kinds disturbing, the aggresive responses I get from a inoffensive opinion. In any case I admit using "u" is pretty stupid, I personally think drugs are bad but someone once told me to know the facts before doing anything I might regret. I have to agree with her. And I believe that above all you shouldn't take drugs before the myelin in your brain is fully formed and you have a line of defense against any neurotoxins that come strolling along. To musu, wow that's a mouthful, I think you should tone down the avid defense of the illegal and nuerologically disatorus substance. Just an opinion.

#85 - "We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union... promote the general Welfare..." The US government has a duty to protect its citizens. So it's not me putting you under my care, it's the government putting you under its care, which by living here you consent to. For the same reason you can no longer get lead paint, despite it's superior quality. It's illegal because the detrimentals effects of its use outweigh any and all potential benefits. And yes, you probably shouldn't be having sex either. But not because you can get an STD, but at the risk of you reproducing, because you're an idiot.

Excuse me, I have to say a few words regarding the last post (clears throat) Burn

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA! I can't stop laughing!!! Not at you though. Well, maybe, if you laughed about it. But seriously? The comments some of you people write! It could have been a debate about anything! Does it really ******* matter?! Pardon my french, but come on! Laugh about it and move on. No one cares about your viewpoint. You want to give your opinions on the subject, you join a debate team and debate about it, don't fight on this website over something like that.

There is nothing wrong with weed. It hasn't killed anyone yet, it's a natural resource and it's against the law because the government doesn't get money from it since it can be grown. I have a bunch of friends who smoke weed and they are great, smart people. Haven't smoked weed yet and even asked my mama if I could, she said do it but be careful. I am pretty excited.

I find it funny that so many people think weed should be legalized. No, I'm not judging you. ;D Anyway, the teacher seems like kind of an asshole but it is a good coincidence. :P

Some of the most intelligent people I've met were majoring in aerospace engineering. They were also avid pot-smokers. Aced all their exams... and they were high most of the time. It doesn't matter if a person smokes weed or not, if they wanna do something productive, they're gonna do it. It just so happens that people are generally lazy, and smoking weed is just one of those things you do when you feel like doing nothing. Should the government ban television and potato chips because they make people fat and lazy?? Um. Perhaps not. I have never experienced any negative physical consequence from smoking. Ever. The bad things are the result of the rules that schools and the government implement. Like probation. **** that shit. It's incredibly disappointing to witness closed-minded though process. It was very unprofessional of your teacher to say that. What a douche.

i don't think weed is bad, might be better than alcohol, might be worse, the fact that studies are still going better means........ *gasp* we don't no every thing about it, so all you people getting all worked up saying "LEGALIZE IT" chill out, i think you know how. to all you saying "DON'T LEGALIZE IT" you too must chill, find out how. also on a side note, all you people saying "i smoke all the time, but I'm not addicted." theres a good chance you aren't but a higher chance you are. everyone says "i don't have a problem." until you are stealing stuff or borrowing money you probley won't pay back, to get some cash. i know people on both sides of the spectrum, funcanal smokers and people who are a burden on society. and it is a gateway drug, but it can take any where from smoking once a month in the summer, to every day for twenty years for the drug to stop giving you a high, thats when you start looking for the next drug that will give you a high to all you people that will argue and get really intense against this post, i welcome you. because i know these thing for as close to fact as we can be right now with the current reserch that has been done. so get worked up, beleave what you want, but ignoring signs telling you weed is bad, and keeping on doing it is another sign of addiction.

That is something you never debate/ give a speech on. It is so tired and overdone, and the only message you get across is "I'M A STONER"
