I know how you feel. I just got put on the waiting list and I had good SAT scores, 250+ hours of community service, a part time job of two years, a 3.95 GPA, and I 've never made a B on a report card. It really stinks because that is my top school, but I'm just going to wait it out and plan on transferring from Kennesaw. Oh yeah, I applied in-state since my dad lives in GA, even though I go to a NC school, which probably screwed me over big time. I'm just going to keep my fingers crossed.
1. Everything people think they know about UGA is wrong. Why? Because stupid alcoholic football fans who couldn't get in anywhere buy UGA shit at Wal-Mart and go to the games. Most of the obnoxious fans have never set foot on a college campus on a weekday. Yes, we have our share of drunk frat rats and sorostitutes, but can you really name a school that doesn't? 2. I can't even count the number of times I've wondered what my prestigious, experienced professors are doing in Georgia. I guess UGA really is that special. 3. Athens is awesome. Downtown is pretty small and not scary - pretty much zero chance of getting shot or mugged (unlike certain other cities mentioned). If you get sick of downtown, there's always the east and west sides. It's a great scene for aspiring bands and other performers. 4. Four dining halls with really good food. One is open 24 hours. I ate quite a lot but still didn't gain a pound because everything on campus is basically walking distance. 5. I say all this as someone whose "safety school" was UGA. I got rejected everywhere else and pretty much got dragged here kicking and screaming. 6. Georgia Tech recently performed a short play called "Calculus: The Musical!"
Haha, wow. Look at the number of Techies posting on here during the school day. Fact: UGA is moving up the list of the best public schools in America. Fact: UGA provides the best and quickest return on tuition in the country. Fact: UGA provides an amazing social scene in addition to quality academic staff. Fact: UGA is continuously getting more difficult to get into. Fact: UGA is among the tops as far as several fields of study are concerned in Business and Journalism. Fact: UGA has one of the highest %s of students studying abroad in the country. Fact: UGA can be an extremely rewarding degree if you take advantage of your time there. Fact: UGA can be an extremely rewarding degree, even if you don't cut yourself to two hours sleeping each night. Fact: UGA's prime social event is every Saturday, where free liquor is had and cute girls wear cute uniforms. Fact: UGA's prime social event is neither Momo-Con, nor Dragon-Con. Advantage: UGA. Frankly, I'm not surprised by the number of people from Tech that are commenting on an internet message board during school hours on a school day. You don't have things like real life friends or actual activities with which to be involved, so this is what you're left doing once your teacher's horrible English is no longer indistinguishable from whatever the hell else he speaks. However, I am surprised that so many of you are so misguided as to believe that the sidewalk alumni who support the Flagship School's football team are actual alumni. Want to know who our alumni are? People like Garret Graveson and Kevin Scott, who are on People's list of 30 under 30 and 40 under 40 for their work in creating service organizations and study abroad trips with a focus on foreign community service. UGA is a fantastic school, if you're intelligent enough and mature enough to take advantage of its (extremely) vast resources. My guesses is that none of you are. Cheers.
Just happened upon this site. We live in GA, my child has a 3.87 GPA, I work for UGA and they got rejected. This is shameful for this state school that kids living in GA who have this kind of GPA - who also took honors classes, was heavily involved in school and volunteer activities, do not get in. Shameful.
yes, because UGA is so difficult to get into have fun applying to tech!
I feel your pain.... but it's not just the in-state kids, I've lived in NC and Washington for high school, have taken IB classes since my freshman year (they're like AP), never had below a B average, was in the National Honors Society, participated in extra curricular activities and I was accepted to the University of Tennessee, NC State, Washington State, and Western Carolina... And EVERYONE told me I'd have no issue getting into UGA, It's been my biggest dream since I was a kid, and I still wasn't accepted.
BTW - The University of Georgia ranks 9th as the “Best Value” public college for 2009, according to The Princeton Review... it's a fantastic school and increasingly harder to get in to. Sorry man, it wasn't meant to be!
Honestly, you learn the same stuff at all schools. I go to UF (it's free for Florida residents). I take the same classes, at the same level of difficulty, as my friends in the Ivy League, various tech schools, and the less-prestigious schools scattered around (Univ. of North/West/Central/South/East _____). The only exception, among schools where I have friends, is MIT. They do some serious work. Unless you go there, you are just paying for the name.
people who are saying that shes an idiot for not getting in are the real idiots. i live in ga and UGA is a highly competitive school. You need atleast a 3.8 and 1400/1600 on the SAT to get in. A girl who graduated with my brother last year was accepted to Harvard, and denied from UGA.

There are other colleges and chances. Did you at least get to enjoy the party anyway? In your situation, I'd make the best of it.
It's alright, you'll get in somewhere! I'm at my fall-back school and I'm loving every minute of it! So hang in there..
