My sons been a T1 since he was 1 year old, he turns 4 next month, the internet will be your best friend, share as many T1 truth telling pages as you can to your mom! She will get it eventually, as a mother, I had zero clue what it was, or how to handle it, until it was literally me and only me keeping my son alive on an hourly basis, for the rest of his life under my care :o I got it, and I got it FAST!
I was diagnosed when I was 2. Having had type 1 diabetes for the last 17 years has been tough, especially if you get comments like that. Trust me, I get it. O once had someone tell me, "well maybe if you exercised a bit more..." yes, because. I was obviously a morbidly obese 2 year old or something
Now I know nothing on your weight OP, but being over weight CAN lead to Diabetes and "walking it off" CAN actually help you lose the diabetes. She may have been giving actual, loving advice.
Yeah, guess what, type 1 diabetes has nothing to do with your weight. That's only the case with type 2, and even then it's not always overweight people who get that.
Hey I've had type one for almost 11 years! My bff has it too! Not too bad! I promise you'll get used to shots!
I have type 1, when my dad found out he fainted
while she may be an asshole, excersising as well as maybe loosing weight can not only help, but there have been cases of it going away completely

Nice to see "shit you not" has survived
Parents are kind of ....special. Especially when they have never been in your certain situation.
