Wrong type of diabetes, type one has nothing to do with weight, you're thinking of type 2.
I don't have diabetes but my boyfriend has type 1 and type 2 runs in my family. Here are the differences, type one can be hereditary or come on through a a virus. For my boyfriend, it was a virus. Type one means your body can't produce it's own insulin, so you have to inject it yourself. Type 2 can be hereditary but it can also be caused by an unhealthy life style. For my family, my Grandpa was healthy and skinny but developed it anyway and same with most of his siblings, my dad on the other hand is unhealthy and over weight and probably never would have developed it had he been healthy. Though his risk was still greater than the average persons just because it runs in our family. As of now I don't have it but only time will tell. Good luck OP, I hope your mom apologizes to you when she figures out the difference. Heck, I hope she figures out the differences.
What a great explaination!
By any chance, was the virus he had RSV? The reason I ask is because I was 10 weeks early and had that and my doctors assume that's why I was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 2. I've had it for 17 years now, though, and its going fairly steady
Slimming wouldn't impact her much at all, lifestyle has nothing to do with type 1 diabetes. Exercise can actually make much harder to control.
Um what? She's probably thinking of type 2 diabetes but still!
now walk it out, now walk it out, now walk it out
Sorry to hear that. I've had it for almost two years and it's alright. Just keep a close tab on your sugars and carb/insulin intake. What I suggest is to not eat any crappy food at all for the first year, then you can start to indulge a little but no fast food or Chinese food because it's very bad for you and makes your sugar stay high because of the grease.
Also watch salt intake. Its worse for a diabetic than a non diabetic person. Thats also why Chinese is such a bad idea.
No jokes, but exercise does help. I used to be Type 1. I changed my diet and started exercising (walking it off) regularly and now I'm not dependant on insulin at all
You were never type 1, you have always been type 2. Please PLEASE don't tell people you "used to be t1". That is false. You were probably a t2 on injections - type 1 diabetes is auto immune and so has a completly different cause. Exercise won't treat a type 1 at all only insulin will.
It could have been worse, she could have told you that you were fat.
Don't eat so much
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease; it is unavoidable. You could be the healthiest, fittest person alive and you would get it. Please educate yourself before judging; you have just done the equivalent of telling someone diagnosed with cancer that they "shouldn't have eaten so much".
