Today, I was eating dinner with my family. My parents didn't want me to hear what they were talking about so they decided they would spell out the words so I wouldn't understand. I didn't. FML

Today, while riding on the car with my family, I put on my headphones and pretended to be listening to music and when my parents talked to me, I pretended I couldn't hear them. They took this opportunity to discuss how fat I was and how I can't hold down a boyfriend. They were laughing as well. FML

Today, I actually had to spell out to my parents that if you don't want someone to repeat the same thing several times, you have to acknowledge that you're listening to them. I've had several occasions where I said something to them 3-5 times, thinking they weren't listening, but then they snapped, "WE HEARD YOU!" FML

Today, my dad and mom and I were going out to eat dinner. My dad wanted a romantic dinner just with my mom so he told me to make an excuse not to go. I did, which ended up as a huge fight, grounded and phone taken away. My dad just stood there in the background putting thumbs up. FML

Today, I was eating at a Chinese restaurant, when I stopped the waitress to tell her that even though I am of Chinese heritage, I can't understand a word of Chinese. After an awkward silence, she told me she was actually speaking English. FML

it's not because he can't read, they were saying the letters one after the other, it can get comfusing if they talk fast. YDI #54 and everyone else who's saying he can't read.

D: FYL, but not really. It kind of makes you feel retarded though. It happens to me all the time. My mom spells something out out loud and I sit there for about three minutes trying to figure out what she said in my head. I can read, but when people spell things out like that, I can't exactly recognize the word right away. ;-; And anyways...Not knowing how to recognize words spelled out orally doesn't mean you suck at English itself..../self-pityslits
