God, people. I don't see where the OP is complaining that the firetrucks saved someone's life, she's saying that she had the bad luck of the fire happening JUST as she was finally drifting off. You morons giving her a hard time about it are going to be crying when she conks out behind the wheel and takes your SUV out. OP--I feel for you. Insomnia is horrible. I hope you can find something that works.
I think what makes this FML sound insensitive is the use of the word 'decide.'
Yeah, you could be right. Then again, get two hours' sleep per night for a few nights in a row, and I guarantee it will give you an attitude.
Oh you are right, two hours of sleep could give people an attitude, especially if they work for a volunteer fire department, get to bed at midnight only to be awoken with a call of a fire at two, rush to the fire sirens blaring so if any one is in the way they will be alerted to move... finally get to the burning building, save the people inside the building, put out the fire, come home four hours later to see someone complaining about their sirens keeping them awake.
oh. the irony! i think this is a very appropriate FML, because something good finally happened for her (falling asleep) and it was ruined (firetrucks). granted, im glad they were going to help someone, but FYL for being awakened. i have RLS, stupid leg twitches >.< ruin my sleep!
they may have "signed up for it", but that doesn't mean that they shouldn't be able to complain about it - and it certainly doesn't mean that you should treat their sleep deprivation with such little disrespect considering they "signed up for it" so that you could sleep safely at night, knowing that if anything happened - you'd have someone to call. and they certainly don't get little sleep by choice - do you have any idea how many fires could be prevented if people actually used their brains? most often when they're awoken at night and dragged out of their beds and away from their families - it's because some asshole didn't put out a cigarette properly, or turn off an oven, or be safe about plugging multiple items into an outlet, etc
As another insomniac, I know how hard it is to fall asleep with noise. I totally emphasize. And to all of the people who are hating, when you really need to fall asleep, you don't really care about other people. Insomnia makes you very selfish. Yeah it sucks for the people in the fire, but it also sucks to not be able to fall asleep.
People-- get a grip. She didn't say "Today, Firefighters saved some people's lives. FML" That would've been rude and awful. What she was saying was, "Today, I thought I was going to finally conquer something that had been bothering me, and external forces ruined it. FML" There's a difference. She wasn't being an ass, she was disappointed. Also, some people just hate taking medication. Pills might not have been an option; she might not have had any handy either. Also. taking Nyquil when you're not sick is stupid. It's never a smart idea to take medicine when you don't need it.
Wow, people here are such jerks. It's rather likely that you didn't want the people who needed the fire trucks to burn alive or anything such as that. You're just here because you were all "Damn, what crappy timing." I've had sleeping problems since I was six years old, and a few times a year, it escalates into actual insomnia, where I won't be able to sleep for three or four days. It sucks. Hard. I wish I knew what to tell you to try and help. I can't even do what some people here are doing and just tell you to "take a pill." First off, taking pills for everything isn't exactly a good idea. Second, they usually don't work if you truly have insomnia. :/ I do hope things get better for you. I know how hard it sucks.
What some of these people fail to realize is that medicine = poison. It's why they have specific doses that you take, and why you should never take prescription medication that isn't prescribed for you. Taking medicine such as NyQuil when you have no symptoms is basically poisoning your body for no reason.
Ah man, thats gotta suck. To the other people whoa re hating on the OP, she's not complaining about about the trucks just making noise in front of her house, she complaining about the irony of her almost getting to sleep then the sudden noise, which made her wake up. Geeze people get a grip!
People here are idiots and overreacting. The OP never said they were mad at the trucks or cursing their name for going to a house that may have had a fire. They were just saying that something, this time a firetruck, prevented them from falling asleep. Stop being douches. Taking medicine doesn't always help and if you've never had insomnia, you don't know what it's like to barely sleep. Get the **** over yourselves, get off your high horses and stop blaming the OP.

I'm sure the people whose house was on fire were equally annoyed with this small inconvenience
