Today, I was finally going to fall asleep at a decent hour. Having insomnia, I generally get about 2 hours of sleep. Right as I'm about to fall asleep, 5 firetrucks decide to drive right in front of my house with the sirens/lights on. FML

I'm sure the people whose house was on fire were equally annoyed with this small inconvenience

God, people. I don't see where the OP is complaining that the firetrucks saved someone's life, she's saying that she had the bad luck of the fire happening JUST as she was finally drifting off. You morons giving her a hard time about it are going to be crying when she conks out behind the wheel and takes your SUV out. OP--I feel for you. Insomnia is horrible. I hope you can find something that works.

As for those who say OP is not complaining about the trucks, "5 firetrucks decide to drive right in front of my house with the sirens/lights on" sounds like they are attempting to say the trucks purposely went out of their way to wake them up. Using the word decide puts the blame on the trucks. Stop playing white knight.

She isn't complaining that they were doing their job. She's just annoyed that the firetrucks had to go by at that time.

yes the firemen should have told the people inside the burning building to wait for a 10 minutes so the OP could fall asleep

34: the OP has insomnia! She can't just get off the computer and go to sleep! That's wut insomnia is-you CAN'T sleep! OP: that sux-I have trouble sleeping too, so I know how you feel. Just remember that they were doing their job and they didn't do it on purpose.

yeah. but sitting up on the comp dont help. if you read what i wrote, ive had diagnosed insomnia for over two years. so go ahead and get over that.

There are different levels and types of insomnia and they affect people differently. I can understand not napping. I physically can't nap. Perhaps the OP is the same, whether or not they are on the computer, it makes no difference because there is no sleep.

I know exactly how you feel and how frustrating not being able to sleep can be. Sometimes I start having panic attacks if I cant get to sleep at a certain time. Also, to firegirl09, if you have insomnia you cannot fall asleep or stay alseep, so there's no use in him/her getting "off the computer" to go sleep, it just won't work. As an insomniac yourself, you should know that.

i am well aware of what insomnia is, thank you very much. sitting on the comp certainly doesnt help. while i realize that it is difficult or pretty much impossible to sleep, sitting up and occupying your mind with other activities eliminates any possibility of sleep, so im right. (s)he needs to get off the comp and go make sleep even remotely possible. even those without insomnia cant sleep when theyre up doing other stuff.

With insomnia, you're never really asleep, and you're never really awake. So yeah, if you start seeing Brad Pitt, watch out.

The OP did not mean it like that, of course he cares about other people to, and hes just saying its his BAD LUCK that someone called then, not that hes pissed that they have to save the person.

Earplugs my friend, earplugs. Oh yes, and sound proof windows.

Awww that sucks... I too have horrible sleep problems, ranging from panic attacks to insomnia. I know exactly what you mean about ALMOST being asleep and then loud traffic waking you up... I live right on a really busy street and there's a lot of obnoxious motorcyclists that scream down the street at a deafening volume. So, i feel your pain. Ignore the jackasses that are assuming you're annoyed that firetrucks are saving people, they're using semantics to be assholes.

Try drinking some chamomile tea with milk (make sure there's no real tea added, though!) or a hoppy beer, like an IPA. It's not a good idea to drink alot of alcohol to fall asleep, as you'll just wake up with a hangover in a couple hours, but one beer, especially a hoppy one, as hops are a natural sedative, sometimes works. I feel your pain, as I often get insomnia myself, but natural remedies are something to try. They often work for me. Good luck!

If you get any sleep at all each night, that's not insomnia. Two hours of sleep? That's pretty much the average amount a college student gets on a regular night. Ever go over a week without sleeping? Yeah.
