Today, I was fired from a managerial position I've held for two years due to "inappropriate relations with a subordinate": I was dating a coworker. My girlfriend then broke up with me four hours later. Because I no longer had a job. I hired her. FML

Now you know never to date a coworker, much less a subordinate. If you manage to find another job in this economy, think with your head, not your dick.

fired and dumped in the same day? that sucks man, and since she's the reason you got fired and she acted like that, then i say good riddance to you.

I call BS because what company would hire you as a manager? McDonalds? and why would you want to work with your girlfriend? so you can spend all day and night with her? Here's what most likely happened... you hired her because she told you to, she started bossing everyone you worked with around because she was dating "the manager" and then this got back to your boss who realized that you are not a leader.... just someone's puppet. You were fired because you were too blind to seperate your personal life from your work life. Life Lessons: #1 Stop dating bossy/shallow/unemployed girls #2 grow a pair of balls

@ #22 HEY GUYS ASSUMPTIONS ARE PRETTY COOL You're a big man throwing around a ton of assumptions about someone you dont know in a situation you have hardly any information about.

I think this is both a FYL and YD. this falls into the category of life lesson. to put this into perspective i have a hypothetical FML: Today, I had a job interview I was so excited about! The interviewer seemed to be going through the motions though, and barely payed attention to my responses despite the fact that I have relevant job experience and am very qualified for the position. Later, I found out he had hired his girlfriend....(I hope that jerk gets fired!) I remain unemployed and am being evicted at the end of the month. FML

#10, if that's the case, that's even more of a YDI. Just seems silly to work in the same place as someone you are dating. Where is the breathing room, you know?

#22 presumptuous much? Maybe you're just projecting. You've concocted this whole story based on 2 sentences of information.

#10, learn to read. The story clearly says "I was dating a coworker." How, then, does that mean he never dated a coworker? I don't really understand your logic. Either way, you deserve it. If you hired her and then you started dating, you should have known better than to date your subordinates. If you were dating her first, and THEN you hired her, you should have known better than to hire her, OR you should have spoken with HR about it so they'd know. Either way, you should have known the consequences of your actions, and if dating her was so important, you shouldn't have been working at the same place. Sorry...can't really sympathize.

Sounds to me like you needed to read the employee handbook. You're just lucky she doesn't turn around and sue you for sexual harassment...which is why it's almost universally against the rules to date any co-worker, much less a subordinate. I'm afraid that seeing a lawyer probably won't help. In most places, they had NO CHOICE but to fire you. If they didn't, they could be held liable for the damages in the eventual sexual harassment suit. By the same token, they probably can't re-hire you. Luck in your future endeavors and don't make the same mistakes twice.

Actually I was a little harsh. Losing a job and your girlfriend in one day does suck. But in a way, you did kinda ask for it. Hopefully you'll be able to find a new job and a better girlfriend 'cause she's clearly a bitch.

Honestly dude, if the girl left you because you got fired, then either she was a gold digger and not worth your time, or just playin you for a job, and still a waste of your time

Uhh, conflict of interest there? If she was your gf before you hired her, they should have used a different hiring manager to hire her. Also, supervisors should never date employees anyway, as that also creates a huge conflict of interest. In short, YDI.
