For those of you confused, I don't think I had any trouble understanding this FML. The OP bought a car from a guy, like most people often do when buying used cars. The guy he bought it from turned out to be a jewelry store robber. The police, though not believed to be involved in the OP's life as of now, recognized the car as the one that was involved in the jewelry store robbery. It is VERY likely that the police did not have the ability to get the tag number, or know the true identity of the thief when they learned of the robbery, thus associating the OP with the police now through the car. Having pulled the "jewelry thief" over and searching the car, finding a potentially very expensive engagement ring would be obvious evidence to a police officer who had no clue of the full situation. However, I do agree with everyone saying just show them the receipt. Surely they will let you go get it, or come with you to get it. If not, take it to court and milk it for all it's worth. FYL for sure.
I dont get what's so hard to understand. Most of you think you're so smart, it's bad for you. He bought a car from a guy that just so happened to rob a jewelry story. Ironically he was going to propose to his girlfriend so he had a ring....which is a piece of jewelry. Since most cops think they're Sherlock Holmes they figure the OP and the theif must be connected in more was than one (one being the car). So the OP got arrested and the ring is evidence which probably could be used in the trial against the theif for the store robbery. Maybe he has a receipt, maybe not but does it matter? I hate how people dont realize this is just a site for entertainment. There's no reason to come and analyze every story just to find holes in it. Obviously the OP wouldnt come to FML to say: "...The ring is now evidence. FML, but its ok because I have proof of purchase" relax jeez
Thank you :) At least some people can be helpful
at least you can propose in front of the Eiffel tower instead of the space needle. you should have plenty of time to save up while waiting for the ring to be released. I mean come on the space needle? why not Fred Meyers?
that REALLY sucks dude. Look on the bright side though, you have an AWESOME story to tell anyone and everyone, not to mention your future wife.
just cause he wrote this doesnt mean its a lie cause he got arrested! Its called posting bail or they dont always hold someone until court. Get a clue people. That sucks though

Your life is awful. I'm really sorry, that is terrible. Well, I guess your girlfriend now knows you were going to propose... I hope she still said yes!
If you have a receipt for the ring you're OK. Sure it sucks being inconvenienced.
