sophiilou tells us more.
Wow, it got published! Wasn't expecting that. For starters, let me just announce NO BROKEN BONES! HALLELUJAH! Seriously is a miracle. Just a super bruised foot. Second, just to give you an idea, this particular mate is the head honcho if my barn. She thinks she is just queen of the world lol. She hates getting her girth out on, and she knows when it's out. When you hook it up on one side (so it isn't even on yet) she gets PISSED. So that day she decided to just step on me and not move, no matter what I did. I didn't clarify that I did punch her in the shoulder, but this mare, dear lord, she just does not care. That's when she shifted ALL of her weight onto that foot. I wasn't wearing my (much more protective) barn boots because I was late for my lesson and needed to hurry. So instead of grooming and tacking in my barn boots I had my tall boots on. I've actually been bitten by the same mare, for the same reason (girth), and that was probably an even more awful bruise than my foot! I seriously don't know how I get away with just bruises. And I know what you're thinking, "Why do you keep working with her when she injures you 24/7?!" Well, she's an amazing horse, just very sassy lol. Also, to whoever said they had no sympathy for me because I owned a lot of horses so hospital bills would not be a problem, you're just dumb. I could've been forever crippled, and you said you have no sympathy? I could've been forced to never compete again. And you have no sympathy? Wow. I'm not on here looking for everyone's sympathy, don't get me wrong, I actually found the whole incident hilarious. But that was EXTREMELY inconsiderate of you to say that. Thanks for all the good wishes!!!! Smushed Sophie out! :) -OP

Ouch! That's gotta hurt, hope you make a speedy recovery!! Best wishes!
should've hit it in the back of the knee. reflexively it would buckle and the weight would come off
Telling from experience?
This. Basic stuff that anyone who works with horses should know. Pushing a half ton animal to the side is futile.
well duh, it's like with any muscle. you hit the connection you flex. same with any animal muscle. try it with an unexpecting friend, it's funny how reflexes always work
Oh no I clicked ydi by accident
Sorry OP, something must be wrong in your relationship with that horse. You could watch a beautiful video called "the path of the horse" you can find it on YouTube it lasts one hour. It may change your view on horses. Good luck for your foot and I really do hope your relationship with your horse improves OP. Horses are sensitive and intelligent animals, if it did that to you there is a reason
Are you not paying any attention to the original post, or what? It was clearly an accident. OP's relationship with the horse had nothing to do with it. I get that you're trying to help, but maybe try using some common sense first, next time.
Well, **** you too, Mr. Ed!
I own shire horses and I know this sounds bad but as a horse owner you should know not to shout at them. Just give them a gentle nudge and they'll move. Voting YDI for this one. You caused it to put more weight on your foot
No one "deserves" to have a half-ton animal crush their foot, dude. Get over yourself.
I was thinking the same thing! What kind of shoes was she wearing?
I agree, every horse owner should already be conditioned not to yell. Especially since OP apparently has multiple horses.
Oh, so you don't yell out in pain when a 1200 pound animal steps on your foot? You just look down and think "oh, look at that, I'm being stepped on." Yeah, no. It's not OP's fault she got stepped on, it was an accident and shit like that happens at the barn all the time. No one deserves for their foot to be stepped on and crushed.
not really... it isnt that hard to grit your teeth and push the animal off. it shouldn't be that bad especially if you have the correct footwear.
Oh yeah, cuz a boot is reeaalllyy going to cushion 1200 pounds. Right. Should feel like a pillow on your foot. I'm guessing you've never been stepped on badly enough to break multiple bones in your foot WHILE wearing proper boots. I have. There's no way I would have been able to "grit my teeth and bare it."
Um, that's exactly what you 59. I've had horses of all sizes and weights step on my foot, and even when I was just wearing sneakers, and I just take a breath, put some pressure on the back of the horse's leg, and continue on with my day. No screaming and nonsense needed. And yes, if you own a dangerous animal, let alone multiple, and don't now the basics of how to act in order to maintain a safe environment, you kind of deserve it when you get injured. Yelling and panicking at a skittish thousand pound animal is stupid.
Have you read the FML? She yelled because she got stepped on not she got stepped on because she yelled. Yelling out in extreme pain is a knee jerk reaction. But please, tell everyone what it's like to be such a perfect equestrian and how it is to be so perfectly in control of your natural reflexes.
I think everyone knows that someone is going to react to pain lmao, the point is she should have known what to do to get the horse to move instead of yelling and shoving at it.
Okay well I've known this horse for many years. I know how she reacts to certain things. She weighs over 1200 pounds and I'm a petite girl, so this was an agonizing experience. I did not deserve this. I was not standing in the wrong place. She didn't want her girth put on so she stepped on me. She is not skittish AT ALL. I know how to work with horses. I'm not an idiot like you seem to think I am. Thanks.
#22 what kind of retarded logic is that?
Herbivore logic
Did you sleep through "horse 101" OP?
