Today, I was in a heated debate about climate change. I got so flustered that I forgot the word "volcano" and ended up calling them "exploding mountain things". End of the debate. Shame. FML

Today, whenever I get into arguments, I end up mixing up words. I was trying to prove a point by saying a type of chips, and was debating between Dorito chips or BBQ chips. I ended up saying "burrito chips." I said my friend would "sell me out for a bag of burrito chips." FML

Today, while at a big speech and debate tournament, I corrected the judge's use of the word "podium" instead of lectern, because that's what my debate coach had told me was the correct usage. Well, she didn't take it too well and neither did my partner. Or my debate coach. FML

Today, one of my debate opponents used the "Bill O'Reilly defense" against my arguments. This involved saying "You can't explain that" about easily explainable stuff, and speaking louder and louder to drown out my voice. He ended up getting a better grade than mine. FML

Today, my girlfriend confronted me for forgetting to take the trash out. At some point during the argument, I tried to calm her down, and the words "I should of" escaped my lips. She spent the next ten minutes calling me stupid and laughing at how my grammar goes to hell when I'm distressed. FML

Hey guys, OP here. Thanks for the comments, they really cracked me up. Just thought I'd provide some background info here since I only got 300 characters before. The debate was with my sister who's a biologist, and it was more about the biases in scientific articles about climate change. English is not our first language, so we often switch between english and German when talking to each other. The reason I referred to them as "exploding mountain things" is because not only could I not remember the english word, I couldn't remember the german word either. That really cracked her up, so much so that she couldn't stay on topic after that. My kids and niece got quite a kick out of it too
