Today, I was informed that my boyfriend's mother would be joining us on our Valentine's dinner. I'm not sure if this momma's boy thing is going to work out. FML

Valentine's day and Mother's day is often on the same day here, but I guess it isn't in the US?

Totally depends on the situation. If the OP was just 'informed' and she had no say in the matter then that clearly shows that her bf doesn't have her as his top priority. However if the mother is elderly, recently got divorced or suffering from bereavement then it is a very sweet gesture as he might just be thinking of how to make his mum feel better without taking into consideration the ramifications it might have on his relationship. If you are a newish couple or there is no understandable reason why his mother would need to be present then you need to have a serious conversation about how he views your relationship. Hope you get it all figured out :)
