Amelia Gazso tells us more.
Op here! Unfortunately it was very real, 5 others were laid off as well. Let's just say the "HR" department consists of one person not even qualified for the job, so it wasn't a surprise they couldn't even get a layoff right. On a positive note I already have a new job lined up and the terrible company will probably be bankrupt soon.

If the companies name on the letter is incorrect and the name on the letter is incorrect then technically you may not be laid off, as it is someone else who works somewhere else on that letter not you.
Does the situation magically get better if they had spelt your name right? It sucks that you got laid off anyway. It could have been a very bad typing error.
Is it possible that you are being pranked? Misspelled company name on an 'official' document seems suspicious to me.
If they spelled neither your nor the company's name correctly, would that not mean it's invalid?
Same thing happened to me! It sucks op.
