I was too old for my job as well...until someone else was hired then I got to keep it... You should appeal that...if that's the reason they give you then there must be something else going on that they don't want to tell you...
I get fired from my workplace when I turn 18 because it's cheaper to have employees under 18. So that can be a reason why they let you go...
