Today, I was listening to music while my grandma and mom were in the same room. I only had one headphone in. My mom, thinking I had both in, started telling my grandma how much of a "little bitch" I am. My grandma went on to say, "She's also a slut." FML

Today, I went to see my grandmother. She has alzheimers and doesn't remember me sometimes, and today she thought I was her sister and that I was trying to steal my grandfather from her. She hit me with a cane and called me a slut. FML

Today, I listened to my grandma monologue about how if my uncle was born first, my mother (and consequently, I) would not exist. I then got to listen to her rant about what a terror he was. Let's just say I learned and heard some things I'd rather have not known. FML

Today, I had to listen to my mom give a detailed description of her date last night to her friends via speakerphone... while I was trapped in the car with her. When I pointed out that I was still in the back seat, she scoffed and told me, "I have a sex life, deal with it." FML

Today, I went to a family dinner. My grandma wasted no time calling me a slut for not wearing a dress, my dad called my police officer boyfriend a "fucking pig", and then he told my mother to "put a cock in it" when she defended me. No wonder I hardly ever visit these people. FML

Today, I took my kids to visit their grandma. At one point while playing, my youngest said "Shit!", so I admonished her. My mom snorted and told me to "stop being such a little bitch", because it will make my kids into "lame prisses like their mother." FML

Today, I was on the phone with my senile grandma, when I told her I had to go because I had an appointment at the clinic. For some reason, she assumed I was talking about an abortion clinic, and started raging at me and calling me a murderer. FML

Honey, I am not defending what grandma said. I'm just telling you that she came from a different era. Things that are acceptable today were so shameful then you didn't speak of it. She is measuring by those standards. Yes they are hurtful. But her version of a **** is not today's version. And mom may be right. Not saying it's true, but let's just look. Have you been a bit short with your mom? Do you treat her like she doesn't know anything? Are you demanding and selfish about things? Do you consider other's feelings before you speak? Did you maybe think you are hurting her feelings too? You can only treat people like crap for so long, before they get tired of it. This cannot all be a one way street and you are totally innocent. Welcome to adolesence. EVERY ONE goes through it. So, suck it up, pull your head out and realize the world does NOT revolve around you and be kind to those that love you. You are very fortunate to have what you do. You're NOT sleeping on the streets, and these people love you. Treat people how you want to be treated. Fortunately those that love us do so even when we are at our worst. Good luck. It's gonna be ok.
