Today, I was making tea when I smelled something burning. My very fluffy cat had put his tail right next to the open flame and burnt his fur. Now I have a semi-hairless cat and a very smelly apartment. FML

This happens more then you would think! Hope your cats ok!!

My friend's cat lit himself on fire with a candle on Valentine's Day, while my friend was having sex with his girlfriend. He didn't realize the cat was still in the room (he was hiding), when suddenly, something was burning.

Hopefully it was all fur that got burned and the kitty couldn't feel anything! Glad you caught this in time.

Quite a cat-astrophic incident.. :(

How trivial is your problem? 1, cat ok. 2, you ok. Please explain the problem again?

YDI for letting a cat on your kitchen counter. Friggin disgusting.

You realize that they go on the counters when your not there. Don't kid yourself.

My cat never goes on the counter, although we never trained her to be like that. I think she's just too lazy to jump that high.

Same here. I'd be really surprised if I ever saw her jump up there!

This reminds me of one of my fave FMLs that DISAPPEARED because FML seems to think they can just delete old ones. Like, us this a game to you? Oh, yea, but the FML was that a "cat got burned. It's crying. It stinks." Idk why but the delivery of it was classic. FML, why you no keep all your old entries? Le sigh

while I feel sorry for your cat, it's your own fault for allowing your cat on the counter, and near the stove. animals don't belong in the kitchen. that's just gross. my animals (including my cat) know better than to step foot in there. it could have been worse. Hopefully you'll learn from this experience before the cat really gets hurt.

Why would you have a cat when you apparently think they're gross? Or what do you do to it that makes it gross? I don't want my cat/dog on the counter, just like how I wouldn't want my boyfriends feet to be there. But I can't see why they couldn't be in the kitchen. But then again, I don't find my pets to be gross, that's just ridiculous.

They will humor you when you're around but once you're gone they will be on the counter.

read the post again. I never said the animal itself was gross. I said letting it in your kitchen was gross. do you know what's on a cats feet from a litter box? to allow that animal to stay on your counter at all is nasty. and no, I'm certain my animals don't go in the kitchen. I'd notice the hair everywhere, as my kitchen is white, and my animals are not.

"animals don't belong in the kitchen. that's just gross" If you want people to read "I don't want my cat on the counter because that's gross" then just WRITE that. You wrote that it's gross to let an animal in the kitchen. In that case it pretty much looks like you think the animal is so gross that it can't even be in a room where food is prepared. It's not like people here know what colour your kitchen is, if you think that. So before you command people to re-read your comments, be sure to know yourself what you've written.

I'm sorry to say this, but you should really keep an eye on your big fluffy cat if there are open flames anywhere nearby. I hope your cat is okay and that you both learn from this, but it really is your own fault. Be careful. The cat is your responsibility, and it is in her nature to be curious and freewheeling.
