Today, I was on the bus home from work when I felt something strange in my hair. I turned to look, and saw the old woman next to me sucking on the end of my hair. When she noticed me staring, she didn't stop but instead said, "So pretty. Can I have?" FML

I was speechless for a few seconds and just kind of stared at her, then grabbed my hair and pulled it out of her mouth and decided to stand instead. Then I took a shower! I would have said something to her but she was about 80 and from Asia, didn't really know English too well

Hahaha that's some creepy ass shit. I gotta ask though, what was your answer?

If that happened to me, there'd be an old gray with a boot up her ass. FYL OP.

I really am curious what she would do with your hair...

Make a wig from it? Use the DNA to make clones of the OP and take over the world? Or maybe just eat it.. Who can really tell with creepy old ladies that are clearly not playing with a full deck.

People touch and grab my hair all the time. They seem to forget it's part of my body!

I'm just imagining the old woman as Gollum but wearing a wig with a bad perm and some retro glasses and carrying a knitting basket and wearing a trench coat full of kittens.

it was her way to express her love. she has no use for the other four senses

I've never had anything that creepy happen, but I can sort of relate. I work with kids and they LOVE playing with my long hair. I really wish they wouldn't... so I stick it in a bun a lot. But if I forget, I'll feel the 4th grade girls trying to sneak up on me and braid it without me noticing. At least the big ones wipe their hands. The really little ones just like to touch my hair and they're usually sticky....

#13 Mass institutionalization was eliminated in the 70s. Unfortunately, there were no community supports set up. In the 90s, the idea of community mental health took off and really gained momentum in the late 90s and into the Bush administrstion. The New Freedom Commission - established by Bush - defined the recovery paradigm and pushed community based treatment along tremendously. Now with programs like Mental Health First Aid, there is more and more community support - growing every day. I agree with you, however, that its not enough. We need to push education and eliminate mental health stigma before we can really begin to see true progress.
