Today, I was participating in an activity to join a program which I really wanted to join. One of the teachers in charge seemed to notice my efforts and asked if I wanted to join the program. I said yes, thinking I had a chance. She laughed, shook her head before saying no and walking away. FML

Can you talk to who's in charge. Not getting in is one thing, but something like that is just unprofessional on their part.

That's cruel, just try again next time and train in the meantime. Good luck.

That's rude! You need to talk to someone in charge of this.

Perhaps you were trying to join the Mean Girls Club and the teacher laughed at you because you are a genuinely fine, decent human being? It's hard to know what to say without knowing what the program is.

Regardless of what others think and how they've been raised, not every activity is for everyone. Was her dismissal unprofessional? Absolutely. Sometimes wanting something bad enough just isn't enough to get in. That or it's encouragement to practice and then try again later. It's hard to say without knowing what you were trying to enter.

Obviously she is not gifted with empathy. Although to be honest, if you work you encounter this kind of behaviour more than you would think. Sucks though, good luck

that "teacher" is an absolute douche nozzle.

Why would the teacher even bother to ask if you wanted to join if he/she wasn't going to let you in anyways?? What an asshole..

It's OK, really, apparently it is not a group you should be around. There are too many decent people in the world to surround yourself with anal orifices.

The fact is that it sounds like she intentionally got OP's hopes up by specifically approaching them, then did one of the least professional things she could have done by laughing at OP and their efforts, like they were a joke. That isn't appropriate for ANY authority figure to do, let alone a teacher - who are supposed to guide and encourage their students. If the teacher didn't think OP could get in for whatever reason, she should have SAID why not, instead of treating OP like a joke. Especially since it sounds like she did this in a room with other people in it. The teacher was out right petty, and inappropriate in her dismissal of OP. Which means, if this wasn't a one time thing she: a: is emotion blind and can't see how her actions affect others b: was fully aware it was a bitchy thing to do but did it because she's one of those teachers that gets off on the power high Or c: is getting burnt out and doesn't care enough to monitor her behavior and keep it work appropriate. I personally think she needs reported just for the sheer unprofessionalism of her behavior- if nothing else, so that if this is something she does often, the school will have a paper trail of improper behavior by her, if she gets worse.
