#75, put your tin foil hat back on... (btw.. I laughed at the guy wearing his droplet mask with it only tied at the top. Mature, I know, but to quote Carlos Mencia, DEE-DE-DEE.. Droplets can still get inhaled around the edges, which is why an N95 mask is an even BETTER option. That guy is doing NOTHING.) "Dr. Richard Besser, acting director of the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, said that so far the disease in the United States seems less severe than the outbreak in Mexico, where more than 1,600 cases have been reported and where the suspected death toll has climbed to 149. No deaths have been reported in the U.S, and only one hospitalization." How many people die of influenza each year? PEOPLE DIE. IT HAPPENS. It doesn't matter which strain it is that is "killing people" *gasp* it is going to happen. Mother nature adapts. People are dying in Mexico because of the Mexican health system and different standards of living. People in the US typically live in the "Nuclear Family" setting as opposed to extended family as in Mexico-- Cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc all living in an enclosed space. Americans have access to antivirals that we have stockpiled. We also have clean water to wash our hands in and drink (that doesn't cause even more diarrhea to then dehydrate us further). We also have the supportive measures, i.e. IV fluids, to keep patients hydrated. There are several huge differences between Mexico and the USofA.
OP, you can definitely fight that ticket, you have the right to bring it to court and I suggest that you do so.
Itd make more sense if you said "pig flu" not "swine flu". Then that would be considered verbal assault and he could write you a ticket.
OP, you can fight that ticket, you have the right to bring it to court.
fml I posted that twice
I agree with #67. I am taking a class all about diseases and such. My lecture last week was on influenza and part of the lecture was about pandemics and how the flu can change to something that we are not resistant too. According to trends of pandemics we are overdue for one. Avian flu was not a human to human transmission, which explains why it did not become a pandemic. However, swine flu seems to be transmitted from human to human and though not seemingly deadly in the U.S. yet, who knows what can happen. It seems very similar to Spanish flu which killed 40-50 million people worldwide. I'd say precaustions are smart if you live somewhere where there have been cases and maybe the OP lives in Mexico, which would mean it could be deadly. I do not think it is a scare tactic by the media because my professor seemed very worried about a flu pandemic and this seems to fit exactly what he was worried about. Just thought Id give my two sense =]
YDI for believing in the swine flu. Seriously, get scared when you can get AIDS by someone coughing on you. Unless you live in a third world country, have a comprimised immune system or are cuddling with pigs, you're not going to get it. The swine flu is like the bird flu. A bunch of bullshit. And you know you'll get off that ticket anyways, because you will go to court and tell the judge what happened and the judge will throw it out. duh.
I want to wear a surgical mask just to be stylin'

I'm guessing you actually said "pig flu", not "swine flu", didn't you?
Hilarious. I know a guy who has believed for over three years now that bird flu will bring the end of the world. Soon as I saw the news I sent him a message saying OMG - flu outbreak and this one's got ur name on it!
