jfyi, $17 of it went into my tank. i know it was stupid to leave it unattended, i made the post so other morons, like myself, could maybe not do something so stupid. I am fully aware you are not supposed to leave a pump unattended, something i have known for the past 10 years, regardless of the fact that the gas station i was at did not have a single sign stating the obvious(i went back and checked) i was in the gas station maybe 3 minutes at most and i was prepared and willing to pay any clean up fees needed, however the 'specialized' materials this particular attendant used was kitty litter, which she took off of the shelf and opened before going outside. the only reason i feel this would remotely qualify as a FML vs YDI is that i was stupid enough to think a drink was worth leaving my car alone at the time, so really more of a FML for being an idiot type of thing.

Btw gas is cheap in US. YDI for being lazy.
I don't know about you, but every gas pump I used, the Gas automatically shuts off when the tank gets full..
Just what kind of drink are we talking about anyway? Were you drunk? Can't you read? The sign says, "DO NOT LEAVE PUMP UNATTENDED." You broke the law. Be thankful you didn't have worse to deal with. YDI.
Oh my god. You're lucky something worse didnt' happen. Idiot.
Eh? How did it keep going when you weren't there? In England, you have to hold the nozzle 'trigger' down the whole time to keep the gas flowing. I guess this is one of those cases where something built for ease and efficiency has backfired. I mean, how lazy must some be to decide 'oh yeh, we'll build gas pumps that automatically fill the car'; I know OP broke the law, but the gas station was asking for it, really. You want people to stay at the pumps? Make it so they have to press something down for the gas to come out. Sorted.
Actually all you need to do in Brittain to "latch" is lodge something underneath the 'trigger' and it would create the same effect. But yes the invention is stupid because it creates a danger. And someone shouldn't be so flippant about something so dangerous as to leave it unattended so really the laziness of someone else cannot be justified by what you deem as 'lazy persons invention'.
This just reminds me of one of my friends bitching about people from Missouri (she works in one of those credit card help centers). She told me that the people from Missouri who call her are so dumb she finally understand why it's called the show me state, her exact words were, "You have to show those idiots how to do everything." Even having been born and raised in Missouri myself, I still found this comment very funny, and sadly often times true from my own experience with the people I grew up around.
You have a house in Delaware? As a Delawarean, I'm sorry. Nobody should live here. Though I do give your dad props for pumping his own gas. It seems like every time I go to Wawa, there are people from NJ staring helplessly at the pumps even though they have bright colorful stickers telling you exactly what to do.
I live in MO now, and when working with the public have become so FRUSTRATED because people here can be so damn stupid and blind. Worked at a restaurant with a drivethrough, and I would literally have to explain simple math to these 'tards because they don't understand how their bill equals so-and-so.

Congratulations OP, now you understand why it is dangerous and illegal to do that.
If you go inside, would it also be easier for people to steal your gas?
