Today, I was pumping gas and decided to go in for a drink. I discovered that when it's cold, sometimes the gas doesn't stop pumping automatically and starts spewing out onto the sidewalk. I had to pay for $53 of spilled gas. FML

jfyi, $17 of it went into my tank. i know it was stupid to leave it unattended, i made the post so other morons, like myself, could maybe not do something so stupid. I am fully aware you are not supposed to leave a pump unattended, something i have known for the past 10 years, regardless of the fact that the gas station i was at did not have a single sign stating the obvious(i went back and checked) i was in the gas station maybe 3 minutes at most and i was prepared and willing to pay any clean up fees needed, however the 'specialized' materials this particular attendant used was kitty litter, which she took off of the shelf and opened before going outside. the only reason i feel this would remotely qualify as a FML vs YDI is that i was stupid enough to think a drink was worth leaving my car alone at the time, so really more of a FML for being an idiot type of thing.

hey OP heres an idea, why dont you fill up THEN go inside and get a drink? i think to further stress the importance of not leaving the pump unattended,if you do a gas station attendant can come out and beat the shit out of your car with a tire iron. then maybe you bitches will act a little more responsibly.

damn you, i used to see ignorant people do this all the time, YDI, you couldnt wait the 5 minutes to stop pumping. they should have charged you for the cleanup as well, it can be very annoying.

OP is a moron. Those "Do Not Leave Pump Unattended" signs are on -every single ******* pump- at every gas station I've been to. No way he didn't see them. Basic common sense would dictate to NOT walk off and leave it unattended anyway. "Hm, I'm handling a dangerous, flammable liquid that costs a lot of money. I should walk off for a few minutes because nothing could possibly go wrong."

I can say for a fact that this is something my father would do. I have seen him start his gas and then follow me into the station to buy a drink. It is not however something I (female) would do. Yes because of the MANY, MANY, single women living on their own who drive cars not one of them is capable of filling their gas tank on their own without doing something like forgetting to remove the nozzle. If I were you I would think twice before speaking trigga76 because it's we women that the dinners and poisoning is a female preferred method of murder.....

Thank you boatkicker for seeing that. Roobear I responded to a sexist comment by pointing out that men can do something stupid and dangerous when it comes to gas and cars too and was responded to with the one comment. In response I wasn't actually threatening murder. "If I were you I would think twice before speaking trigga76 because it's we women that the dinners and poisoning is a female preferred method of murder....." This was actually me jumping ahead one sexist comment, you know the one that usually comes up about women staying in the kitchen, to point out that you shouldn't piss off the people who make your food. I apologize trigga75 if that seemed unnecessarily harsh but I figured I would cut off that line of jokes before it did actually become majorly offensive rather then only mildly.

I work at a gas station and the 3 times that I've seen people drive off with the pumps still in their tanks, were all male. One was some exec douchebag that forgot about it because he was too busy on his cell phone.
